if the person delibrating put the distance, then thing most probably wont work out. I believe best is subjective and arbitrary and wholly dependent on the stage of life you're in. A match is best for you at that point in time. It doesn't necessarily mean it remains the best match when you're 40.
Assuming the above, as we go through different stages of life, there are chances of finding a good partner. And it also means that we have to work and maintain at being each other's best whatever - friend, lover, etc. -

Just thoght of a story I have read long time ago. some reader's digest story but.. I'll summarise it ya
This boy when he was young had a dream his future. He wanted to marry a blonde lady who can sing very well, have 2 sons tt can play football with him, live next to the beach and have a doggie he can run with every morning. He thought it would be his ideal future and every night he pray to god that his wish can come true
but when he grew older, he slowly forgot abt this wish. He found a very good job in the city so he moved into an apartment there. Met a beautiful brunette girl who can't sing but is an artist. Have 3 daughters who would run and hug him when he reach home. And 2 cats who ignored him. He was happy.
Until one night, suddenly he had the dream again, and next morning when he woke up, he looked at his brunette wife humming out of tune to herself while preparing his breakfast and he felt very annoyed with her. He went to work in a bad mood and felt he hated his job. When he reached home, he felt the shrill voices of his daughter giving him migraine. He felt grounchy and unhappy and felt that life was damn unfair to him. He had been a good person, prayed hard, how come his life was still so unlike the perfect life he always dream for.
Finally he got so depressed Blah Blah then he want to commit suicide. This part go to metaphysical regions where he ask God then Angel come to explain to him but the point is..... (damn i'm not good at summarising sorry)
Human beings can dream and desire the existence of fantastic and perfect beings like fairies and elves and etc. But many never recognise the perfection and beauty of what is already here -- in fireflies and butterflies. So while we seek our idealistic 'best match', actually could be already next to you all the time.

when i met him, i thot he is the best....
after being together, i feel he is not the best....
after ups & downs, he prove he is the best.... at least for me...
best is relative.....
the best match needs "tian shi, de li, ren he" also....
meeting the best choice at the wrong time cause more pain than joy....
btw, if we ask for the best.... shouldn't we 1st ask ourselves, are we the best? -
