I don't know about you but I rather not have the dear old cleaning lady clear my lust. She may not withstand the exertion.Originally posted by RaTtY81:well let her clear ur lust?
Nope... c'est en francais... pronounced 'Lay Mee-zay-habl' but the 'bl' is very subtle. So subtle you don't really hear it.Originally posted by JLennon:I belive Les Miz is pronounced as 'Leh Mee-zay-Haab'
i cannot stand the way Americans pronounce Iraq as 'Ai-Rack'.
Check the dictionary for phonetics. I like the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary... it shows the phonetics for BOTH the British and the American pronunciation.Originally posted by laurence82:So how do we noe who is right who is wrong?
That's right - just checked with my colleague who'd lived in France for a long time!Originally posted by Rhonda:Nope... c'est en francais... pronounced 'Lay Mee-zay-habl' but the 'bl' is very subtle. So subtle you don't really hear it.
Same as 'la table' is pronounced 'lah tah-bl' in French. The 'bl' is there... but not emphasised so it's easy to miss it.
I really miss those French lessons... sooo tempted to return to Alliance Francais, especially since recently, I had to attempt to speak to a French patient's mother in my very rusty and bad French. Pretty funny!
Can double-check with Neuros when she's back.
Colonel should be pronounced as 'kernel', right?Originally posted by SeAvOyAgEr:Oh, how about this two words that I am always unsure abt the pronunciation:
1) Colonel (pronounced as ker-ner?)
2) colony (pronounced as ker-ler-nie?)
Why the difference?

Soooo cuz those in the know were guffawing away. I learnt then, and have never forgotten since, it's supposed to be pronounced 'or the-ff'.
