Library User?

Count our blessings - we have libraries here that are housed in beautiful buildings or that are located in shopping malls and thus very accessible. On top of that, the interior decor is usually good, and most importantly, the books are pretty new and in good condition. Of course, we could always do with more titles, especially non-fiction, but we really do have libraries that are pretty much world-class.

Just wondering, with all these attractive amenities, how many of you actually use the library's various facilities and how often do you use their services? Have you borrowed AV materials from them before? What do you like and / or dislike about the current books, facilities and services provided? What would you like to see in the libraries? -
i visit the library regularly mainly to borrow fictions.
no interest in other things.
it is near perfect in my opinion. -
i have only visited woodlands regional library n i have no complains about it.

I know now can loan books using IC but owning a library card is like...oh I dunno...the ultimate cool ? *laughs*
I also loaned out 4 books. Hmmm...Come to think of it, the books ( I was at the Tampines branch) were not really in very good condition and the selection was worse than I could remember...
The redeeming feature is that we can loan books faster (self service counters) compare to say...er...10 years ago ? Damn I feel old. And the staff there was very helpful and friendly. -
I love my uni library, the 5th and 6th floor are always filled with pretty asian girls.

I frequent the library, but juz plain reading/studying in there, borrowing books and have some hi-tea. hehe..like their concept of having cafeteria inside the library..but would appreciate if they have more tables (and i mean proper tables and chairs with legs) for students. If u ever enter their so called study room in Jurong Regional Library, u might feel the same as me..japanese style tatami..no tables and chairs..juz seats..makes not much difference as sitting on the floor..and their furnitures are decorated with 'artistic graffiti'.

Had this premium thingy for a year but I hardly exploited it. haha. Only goes to library to borrow books or magazines.. hardly using other faciilties unless toilets are included. hah. can't say much abt the current books/mags cos each library has their so called niche. Smaller libraries dun have that greater amt of stuffs, so to say. All in all, the library at my area serves very well.What would you like to see in the libraries?
Hmm.... perhaps some samples of overseas or even local indie movies. That'll be cool cos I guess movies like these bring different perspectives and meanings to us. That, in turn is some learning process too. -

Actually, you can reserve books that are currently on loan too! It costs $1.50, I think. -

The last time I went to the Queenstown Branch Library donkey months ago, I was impressed with the views of a huge field of green grass and the odd tree here and there dotting the landscape! The generous glass windows towards the back of the library offer this view and gives you a 'far from the madding crowd' kind of feeling... siiiiiiiiigh...
When I went up to the 2nd floor, I saw a Reading Room with several ah peks taking their afternoon nap inside, enjoying the air-con, the comfy couches and the silence.
I like the Orchard Library located two floors above Kinokuniya in Ngee Ann City. They even have pre-selected CD's in wall-mounted players for you to sample! They also have a pretty decent spread of cookbooks, craft books, exercise books, cat books, interior decor books, travel guides and other non-fiction books and magazines.
I don't like to borrow fiction from the libraries because they're usually well-thumbed through and quite sorry looking. They also don't look very erm... clean. A few of their older titles are so yellowed that you feel an itch coming on just looking at them! Besides, I like to savour fiction and sometimes, end up with overdue fines. I prefer to rent fiction from those 2nd-hand bookshops but sometimes, I just have to buy them because those stores don't offer the titles I'm looking for. -

and got so fed up, I decided not to borrow anymore books.
My fines are still unpaid as we speak...
