okay.. my old PII-450 is about to give up the ghost... this time, the HDD decides to work for about 15 minutes before stopping totally...
time to get a new one...
somewhere in my head, a fantasy personal computer comes to mind... goes something like this:
Dual 2.7GHz PowerPC G5
1.35GHz frontside bus/processor
512K L2 cache/processor
512MB DDR400 SDRAM
Expandable to 8GB SDRAM
250GB Serial ATA
16x SuperDrive (double-layer)
Three PCI-X Slots
ATI Radeon 9650
256MB DDR video memory
With the 64-bit G5 processor, the Power Mac G5 breaks the 4GB barrier. Power Mac G5 systems support up to 4GB or 8GB of DDR SDRAM depending on model selected. A fast 128-bit DDR memory interface provides up to 6.4 GBps of memory throughput
The Power Mac G5 features Serial ATA support with two drive bays for up to 800GB of ultrafast storage.
The SuperDrive (up to 16x DVD write and double-layer media support)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra with dual DVI ports, include dual display support and ship with a DVI to VGA adapter.
All Power Mac G5 systems include a built-in Gigabit Ethernet port for networked environments. For an additional port, choose the Gigabit Ethernet PCI-X card option for an extra high-speed Ethernet port . The card operates in all Power Mac G5 systems with PCI or PCI-X slots and includes 802.1q VLAN support plus jumbo frame capability.
Depending on your wireless needs, Power Mac G5 may be upgraded with an Internal Bluetooth module, an AirPort Extreme Card or both. Note: if the special Apple Wireless Keyboard, Mouse, and Bluetooth module bundle option is desired, please choose that option in the ‘Apple Keyboard + Mouse’ menu below. It is not necessary to select Bluetooth options in this configure to order section.
The wireless bundle, which includes an Apple Wireless Keyboard, Apple Wireless Mouse, and a built-in Bluetooth module. If desired, also choose a keyboard in other languages offered.
30-inch Flat Panel. AppleÂ’s flat panel, liquid crystal displays feature an anodized aluminum enclosure, FireWire and USB 2.0 ports and an industry standard DVI connector for a direct pure-digital connection to the aluminum Power Mac and PowerBook systems.
