Any recommendations for a short vacation nearby?

  I'll be back in Singapore in Dec - woohoo! Can't wait
  
  Am planning to go for a short holiday somewhere near Singapore with hubby & family, but am not sure where to go.
  
  Our original plan was to go to Haris, Batam for 2 nights stay over Christmas, but maybe Indonesia isn't exactly safe these days Any suggestions?

  Desaru, Langkawi or Bali; Penang, Phuket or Hong Kong ... places I'm considering for my upcoming November vacation!
