No, it's more like the cats can get us to do many things.Originally posted by the Bear:you can get cats to do anything?

Ok, the benefit of exercise would be....so that we can continue to exercise when we're old?

Is it your back ache? Seriously, you must try pilates. It's done wonders for my chronic lower back ache, after 3+ mths. My instructor said it the was the only exercise that could cure her back injury which she had since 12 yrs old.Originally posted by the Bear:i guess... right now, i'd be happy if i can get back into shape to be able to exercise without crippling myself again
Haa...that's a good one! Reminds me to visit the zoo.Originally posted by Rhonda:You can! Run before a big cat and they'll surely run after you... for their supper!

Yo, Wanda! I've been telling the Bear that Pilates is good for his back but he keeps giving excuses.Originally posted by Wanda:Is it your back ache? Seriously, you must try pilates. Oh dear me, now you tell me being a nurse will get more backache! Definitely agree with you that Pilates helps, speaking from experience. I wonder where can men join Pilates classes? Find one suitable for the bear lor, and perhaps for my hubby also.Originally posted by Rhonda:Maybe, I should draaaaaag the Bear to a Pilates class with me! hahaha!
The downtown gyms have pilates classes...Originally posted by Wanda:Oh dear me, now you tell me being a nurse will get more backache! No excuses...you can sign up for those "unlimited" package whereby you can drop in for exercise class anytime during the day or night, but they do cost more. So, to get value for your money, you must go for min. 3x a week, and if you can't find enough pilates class to meet your schedule, then you'll have to include others like lo impact, sculpting, KB, etc. Then you'll become a super fit and strong bear. Good eh?Originally posted by the Bear:well, the simple reason why i do not go for any pilates classes are that they are on a fixed day of the week...
i do shift work.. with an insane schedule... there is no way i am going to sign up for a class, and attend 1/4 of the classes only
I wanted to encourage u to ex, but looking at your medical history... i don't really know.... man...Originally posted by the Bear:well, i can't afford those
was looking at the CC version of the classes... once a week on wednesdays... cheap and very near my place
actually, i've had a bad history with exercise until i'm kinda phobic these days....
i exercised and trained for my IPPT and it resulted in a slipped disc...
i bought a bicycle for exercise and rode it about 10 times before the 2nd slipped disc...
i went power-walking and ended up with a pinched nerve on an unrelated injury....
before that were a bunch of niggling things that happened to me each time i went on an exercise regime which i stuck to faithfully for a couple of weeks before an injury unrelated (except for the IPPT one) hit me badly
i'm jinxed...
maybe when i'm all healed up, i'll go back to power-walking.. walking very very fast for about 5 to 6km is invigorating
Bear can still exercise, e.g. can start with walking, then go for longer walks which can be just as beneficial. A couple of books I've read suggest that the "no pain, no gain" type of exercise is not nec good for most people. To burn fat, a "slow burn" approach can be more effective. Some treadmills in the gyms have built-in programmes which recommends exercising within a certain (lower) target heart rate if your goal is fat-burning, while a faster heart rate target is meant to give a good cardio workout (for the heart). However, if anyone is new to exercising, please start gradually, do NOT over exert, or do too much too soon - it's always a bad idea.Originally posted by spencer99:I wanted to encourage u to ex, but looking at your medical history... i don't really know.... man...
