I like the fried pastry but not if they've been fried in oil that's been reused sooooo many times (yucks!) or if they've been sitting in oil too long and become soggy (eeeew!).Originally posted by elindra:Just curious if there is any local favorite that you guys don't like to eat.
For me, I don't like to eat the humble curry puff because it's messy and greasy and it just don't appeal to my palate. Don't get me wrong. I love curries but I don't like it as a stuffing in a fried pastry.
Actually I don't like any fried pastry...You know those Han Chi Peng, Butterfly fritters whatever....everytime I eat those I feel like throwing up because of the oil.
this is not a local delicacy.Originally posted by ^spidee^:Chou dou fu.
Izzit? Authentic Laksa gravy not supposed to have coconut milk?Originally posted by laurence82:actually, most of the stuff i prefer to eat in malaysia, rather than in sg
like roti prata, nasi lemak, char kway tiow, pig organs soup, mei cai kou rou,
however, there is one dish i like to eat here which is laksa
by right, laksa gravy dont have coconut milk in them, but not so lately, hawkers started to add coconut milk, which makes the laksa tastier, albeit more sinful....

I know that Penang Laksa doesn't have coconut milk in the gravy but Nyonya Laksa has coconut milk all along.
Lots of my friends love it but not me..i'm not a seafood person, except for fish.Originally posted by Rhonda:I don't like cockles. They just look very toxic to me. Everytime I see cockles, I think, 'EEeeeee!! Hepatitis!!!'
Not sure if you can call them a 'local favourite' though, cause it seems that it's mainly the older generation who likes it. Bear is the only person I know who is from my generation who likes it, and I do not know anyone from the generations after mine who does.
since day one laksa has coconut milk in it.Originally posted by laurence82:donch noe

It's not a rumour, it's the truth. Small white worms.Originally posted by dragg:my foot!!
then you should say laksa dont exist.
rumour has it that earthworm was used for cooking laksa.
wonder if they still do it now.
Its Benzois-degrasso Worm, imported from France, where they really eat everything...Originally posted by Rhonda:It's not a rumour, it's the truth. Small white worms.
I think those worms aren't easy to get nowadays, that's why most hawkers don't use those worms in their laksa anymore.
