Go to the library & borrow books, DVDs & CDs instead of buying them! It's saved me countless $$ & space as well (as well as less dust to clean up ). I like to walk into a bookshop, take down the titles of books I find interesting, and then reserve them at my local library (shh!! don't tell the shop owners hor, scarlee I kena banned from entering the bookshops )
1. Shopping list.....what shopping listOriginally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Saw an interesting programme on TV the other night on saving tips - thought we can share some tips with each other on how we save $$
- To prevent impulse buying - use a shopping list and stick to it
- Switching to generic brands can also help, even if it is only the staples such as milk, flour and sugar
- Buying meat at the wet market / butcher instead of at supermarkets
- Turning off appliances at the power point when not in use can save you heaps
- Dripping showers and taps can also be expensive - get them fixed asap!
- Wash your laundry in cold instead of warm or hot water
- Buying lunch can be a huge expense - as much as $10 per day. Try taking your lunch from home just twice a week, and you could save as much as $1,000 a year.
- Having a credit card debt of $1,000 in the course of one year will cost you about $180. Pay your card bill on time to save easy money.

Keep track of yr expenses. Check yr bank statement. Make sure withdrawals are less than deposits.Originally posted by choco B:All these money saving tips are great .
Except when I manage to save on one item, I always find something else to splurge on.
Thus, net saving = 0 .... if I'm lucky, sometimes deficit somemore.
Bo bian. I blame shopaholic tendencies.
However I agree that DVD rental / purchase at low price (don't ask how) is one of the best ways to save on entertainment, given prices of movie tickets.
