Had the most embarrassing experience today at one of the NTUC branches. For some reason, my NETS card decided to die on me when I was about to pay for my groceries.
I thought to myself...FINE! I'll use my credit card. Then the cashier said,"Sorry you can only use cash or NETS here" So I said,"So which line can I use my credit card?" and to my horror she replied,"Sorry you can only use cash or NETS in NTUC"
I mean WTH???? Such a big supermarket chain and they don't accept credit cards. It was so goddamn embarrassing and I was just short of 4 bucks!!!!! BTW, it was a medium sized NTUC and not one of their tiny outlets.
So now I know our "National" Supermarket does not believe in people owing them money
They only believe in cold hard cash -
they never accepted credit since time immemorial
oh well.. always pays to have cold hard cash on you -

NTUC wants fat margin, in fact they have the fattest...
Go Cold Storage, never go to NTUC unless to see how they have rotted -

Thing is, I usually shop at Cold Storage and I know that they accept credit cards....guess I shouldn't ASSUME that a BIG supermarket chain does not accept credit cards.

I am not surprise.
Sometimes even BIG department store won't accept Credit Cards as they will lose certain percentage of the sales and if it does not cover that lost, they won't accept.
In your case, you are expecting NTUC being a BIG company should have credit card facilities I guess. Maybe they don't find it worthy to have that facility at that outlet you are at. -

I had a water incident.. haha.. my water bottle had split all over my bag.
So smartie pants me took all my stuff out to dry.
INCLUDING CARDS AND CASH...
went to David Jones... with nothing but an empty wallet... and only discovered at the line. So embarrassed, slithered off to my car pronto.
Nobody to call and be rescued too! -

alot of merchants though have credit card machines but consumer have to pay 3-4% to use it....
i am informed this method for using credit card facilities are not allowed in accordance with the Credit Card companies that the merchant applied to get the machine. If we complain, they might lost the machine..... -
