I have to disagree with you on this. It's a stereotype that people who hold such jobs are of a lesser breed. Perhaps they were unable to further their studies, are carrying on a family business or were unable to find better jobs. It doesn't mean they mixed with bad company or were not raised properly by their parents.Originally posted by Gedanken:I don't think it's as simple as an issue of "unglam jobs". Surely there's also the issue of the choice of profession reflecting the person's character and, in turn, implications for the marriage.

Agreed. Construction men...are....yummyOriginally posted by The man who was death:I think some women will want to marry construction workers if they want to fulfil their sexual fantasy I mean ah du isn't too bad right?
i agree with you...shallow women will always think the richer them man they married the better....a good man = a kind hearted = a loving father = a good husband = not low IQ = only only shallow people think they are smartOriginally posted by Kuali Baba:I have to disagree with you on this. As I mentioned in another thread, a job is only a title. Stereotypes depict artisans as poor earners but this isn't always the case (in GB they can earn handsome sums) and a person can always move up the ladder or switch to a different line altogether. It's a woman's loss if she shuns a man just because of his job, he may have plenty to offer in other respects.

Women.
Actually it should only be singular. And preferably, ME.
Yeah man, some shallow minded educated man here also thinks that by having a "glam" job they will naturally be THE preferred women's man.. with all his qualification, I am not sure if he really knows how to satisfy a women sexual needs...Originally posted by limian69:i agree with you...shallow women will always think the richer them man they married the better....a good man = a kind hearted = a loving father = a good husband = not low IQ = only only shallow people think they are smart

Nope. What's the point of getting married if it means that you'll only be with each other when it's time to sleep? That's not being a husband-and-wife, that's more like being bed partners only.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:A number of women gave the surprising view that they would not want doctors because although they are well paid and respected, they have no time for their families. The highly respected Korean scientist, Hwang Woo Suk who was invovled with cloning the dog recently is such an example. He spends 4 hours a day with his wife, when both are asleep.
Will you gals marry someone like him?
I guess the first thing I look at would be whether there's good, open communication and good vibes and chemistry with the bloke, rather than his vocation.Originally posted by kops21:Will You Marry Me if I am a .......
Gigolo - Nope... I will never be able to shake off the nagging thought about STD's and HIV.
unemployed man - Depends.
Yes, if he's a victim of 'downsizing'. I mean, how can you blame a man if he was retrenched? Not his fault!
No, if he's unemployed by choice, due to sloth. Now, that, I cannot tolerate.
loan shark - Nope. I don't believe in wealth via ill-gotten gains. I can never sleep easy knowing that my King Koil bed was paid for by taking advantage of someone else's dire situation.
Garbage Collector - Eh... if you visit me, you'd think I'm one. Seriously though, how do you even meet a Garbage Collector? I mean, would he hang out in the places I usually do?
Or, are you referring to the CEO of some recycling company?
Cleaner/road sweeper - Eh... I'm my own Cleaner. And when I get married, my husband and I will both be cleaners when we clean our house together.
OK, seriously, it depends on why he chose the job. Is he a road sweeper cause he was a litterbug and is doing that whaddayacallit, some compulsory community service thingy? Or, is he one because he is not suitable for other jobs due to a lack of education? If it's the latter, then, was he uneducated due to poor family circumstances or due to laziness?
In my working life, I come across a lot of people from 'humble' or, as you say here, 'unglam' vocations and background and to be honest with you, career is no reflection of a person's moral character. I've had a crush on a car mechanic once because he was a friendly, cheerful, simple and honest chap who was diligently taking night classes to upgrade himself. You've gotta love a man like that! I'd choose him anytime over a pompous and arrogant millionaire!
karung guni man - Like Elindra wisely pointed out, are those e-bay traders considered as our modern-day equivalent? It's all a matter of perspective!
diskwasher - Eh... who's or what's a 'disKwasher'?
Assuming you meant 'disHwasher', ... I wash my own dishes at home too so, does that make me one too?
Or, like Elindra pointed out, are you referring to the dishwasher of the GE / Ariston / Philips kind?
finshmonger/butcher - Fishmonger, why not... got sashimi everyday for me and my cats! Don't look down on the fishmonger ah chek... some of them drive 'Mer-say-lees', ok!
Butcher... nope. Simply because my recent assignment involved working in some rich chap's home with an indoor kitchen and dining area that stank of hormone-infused pork! EEEEeeeeeewwwww... I smell it, and I have nasty associations to my recent assignment there and I'd much rather forget it altogether, thank you!
hawker assistant - Don't look down on the lowly hawker, ok! I admire folks who are good cooks! These days, rich, educated people go into the food business too and they might start off as a 'hawker assistant'.
construction worker - My ex was a Construction Contractor at one stage. And recently, I had to nurse a construction worker from China and when his wife and sis-in-law finally managed to raise the funds to fly themselves down from China, we found out that he's a great man who single-handedly provided for his wife, and her family, on top of his own parents. I salute a man like that - a man of good moral character making a good honest living.
Huh? This is absolutely ridiculous. Germs can be removed from bathing, and anyway, bacteria is everywhere around us. In fact, I think it is very handy and useful to have a nurse at home.Originally posted by Rhonda:Besides, it's all a matter of perspective too! There are folks who would never marry a nurse, esp after SARS, because they think that we do 'dirty' work and bring germs and all sorts of nasty infections home.
