It's a huge Tsui Hark production with breathtaking sceneries set in Xinjiang.
In summary, Seven Swords refer to the erm... Seven Swords (OK, I know this sounds stupid!
) that was forged by Master Shadow-Glow, a hermit who is a master of swords and who has four disciples with 'unimaginable swordsmanship' (translation: here's where you get a lot of oooh-aaaah swordplay and wireworks! 
).
Each of the Seven Swords has awesome names - The Heaven's Fall, The Dragon, The Deity, The Unlearnt, The Star-Chasers, The Transience, and The Celestial Beam.
Each of these swords are legendary. For instance, to cast The Heaven's Fall, a hundred swords were melted. OooooOOoooohhh!! *chuckles
I daresay, the swords will fast become collectibles. I, for one, wouldn't mind hunting for a miniature set of these seven swords.
So, this movie is set in the 1600's, when the Manchurians established their dynasty in China. Martial Arts became outlawed but there's this group of renegade martial arts practitioners who violently oppose the govt and they are putting up a kickass kung-fu resistance against the PAP... oops, sorry, wrong setting, I meant to say, the govt. 
So, lots of fighting involved, I presume, with the Seven Swords being used a lot, I guess. There's a traitor in their midst, and an unexpected love triangle too. My guess is, the love triangle would most likely involve Yang YunChong (Leon Lai), Wu Yuen Ying (Charlie Yeung), and Green Pearl (Kim So Yeun). Just a guess, see how predictable the movie is!
Dunno about you but everytime I watch legendary martial arts movies, I get very excited one! It's like, they go, 'hee-har!' and 'shing-shing' with their swords and fly here, leap there, all that, then they mutter a string of words like 'Lu Lai Shen Zhang!' (echo: zhang...zhang... zhang... zhang...) or 'Zui Quan' or some other mumbo-jumbo like 'Monkey Taking a Piss' or 'Stork Alighting From Sky' what-not and then do a Vogue pose. Then, the audience goes 'Whooooooaaaaaaahhhh!!!'
So, this afternoon, IF I manage to DRAG myself outta my boudoir, I shall head on down to catch 'Seven Swords'! -

anw it's quite a nice show.... the fighting scenes are marvellous.... tho the beginning is a tad too violent for me.... *scared scared*
personally i like the 7th sword the most.... yes yes the old villain turn good guy.... cos he really got gongfu mah, so the way he fight really got "power"... and of cos zheng zi dan lah.... tho half the time can't see his face! -

Watch the movie in HK and Singapore... Very different.
The HK has a prelude to the next movie in between the show showing the ultimate sword by the duke. Singapore did not even show the face of the duke. By the way is michael something. The ABC. Old school actor.
Singapore showed how they found the markers by the traitor on the tree, but hk do not have.
Friend brought the animation book in HK. Good stuff telling the story of the different characters. like the wolf guy. -

This movie didnt really show how Wu Yuanyin (Charlie Yeung) and Han Zhibang (Lu Yi) became good fighters. I thought Wu Yuanyin dont know anything about sword fights when the movie started then just some pointers by Yang Yun-chong (Leon Lai) became so good?

Reading what's up on the original website about the swords, it seems like each of the swords has a story to tell! The way they're made is so unique and enchanting!
And... is there going to be a Part II? Someone mentioned in his post that in Hong Kong, there's a sneak glance at some Duke and some sword for the akan datang sequel??
This movie was good but I felt it was too hurried and left too many questions unanswered for those like me, who doesn't know anything about the original story. It's called 'Zi1 Jian4 Xia4 Tian1 Shan1', right? -
Seven Swords is now available on DVD! I saw it on sale at Poh Kim for $13something.
