i am 19+ months already. -
left mine in mid july.. now still hunting.. left without securing a job first because it affected my private life too much.

This age discrimination thing dates back to even the early 70s. I remembered my dad retired at 55 which left a vacuum in his life. Being a good cook and one who enjoys it, he answered an ad for a chef in a local hotel. The HR actually told him he is overage.
I guess then it's about how our attitude towards situation. We can either turn it positively or negatively. But I also realise sometimes, matters can be beyond our reach.
Anyways, guess what my dad did? He rented a stall at one of the local hawker centre and bingo.......has been at it since then till health reasons confines him at home. But step-ma still running it.
Don't get me wrong, I know it is stressful and a pain. But sometimes, I think having that "space" (unemployment), it is also a chance to look around and check out other possibilities.

Everyone faces the stress of working i get harassed by my work 24/7 the pressure never lets out ... always contemplate quiting but dun have the courage to do so as have bills to pay , famiy commitment ...
guess for the brave ones who has made the decision has to look back with no regrets ... well living in sg for a normal low salaried worker like me .. I reckon I would have to live in this torment for the last of my life ...as long as I still empolyable ba which I should call myself fortunate ...well the day will come... that self employment beckon .. when I hit 40s ... do you have the fiancial assest to tide you thru ...no life long employment unless u are lucky
When will be the day I can acheive financial freedom n I get off all this...be a MLM , insurance agent ,property some wat all these up lines have been telling you ... of cos we must look positively forward and try ... we will never know .. my personal thots.. -

It's the same whether in Singapore or in Australia, I think. We took a couple of months to find work... hubby was so stressed he lost quite a bit of weight, and hair, too!!
As for me, I'm currently working but contract runs out end Sept. Hopefully I can get another job soon. All the best in your job hunt, too! -
job hunting sucks... and i have to admit, sometimes, the jobs suck even more...
i wonder sometimes.. i read and hear about the senior management and the con-men-sultants rant and rave about "making your staff partners" and "engaging and valuing your staff"... what the heck are they doing?
it's stressful for the job hunter because it is clear that the company will try to wring every last ounce out of you..
and when you actually get the job, you wonder if you just been had?
right now, my sister is going through some kind of job hunt.. sad thing is, she's actually very qualified to totally take over the operations of a few groups, expand and grow it wonderfully because that's what she had been doing for the last job she was in (but was hampered by idiot management.. i've personally seen it happen).. so much so that when she wanted out and refused to extend her contract, there was near panic in her company as she wound down operations for them...
this corporation will probably be too afraid of her and will not call her back because the people who are interviewing her, would probably end up being her subordinates...
sometimes, i wonder.. job hunting is stressful.. but is it necessary for the organisations to make it so stressful on everyone, including themselves? -

good luck on jobs hunting ... went thru that period too ... haiz need to go to all the stupid interview ... so sian
get some contract or temp job ... better than jobless ... -
going thru the classified ads later.. hopefully can manage to find a couple of suitable ones. not much openings for technical stuff, especially from aviation/aerospace.
lots of sales jobs though but i've got no prior experience and not really into it.

Wah, do you think it's that easy to make such a drastic career switch?!
It's definitely NOT a career you ought to embark upon as an afterthought!
And you know, for a few, nursing might be the start of their problems, NOT the solution!

Y'know, I had no idea that it was still so difficult to get a job. I thought that the bad times had already passed us by. Apparently, the hoo-ha has quietened down but the bad times are still here.
I feel really bad for those of you who have been unemployed for a long time and are still ardently searching for jobs, attending countless interviews, going through the tiresome process over and over again, waiting with bated breath, only to face disappointment again, and again... It's a real awful situation to be stuck in so I really really hope that there'll be good news on the job front for all of you soon, especially you, dragg.
I know it's tough and demoralising but keep on trodding... it can't rain all the time.

Not everyone will find that idea appealing.
