Thanks MG, yeap, feeling better.Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:Hey, Littlestream! Are you feeling better this morning? We missed you yesterday.
No heavy rains yet today here, but it is cloudy and expected to rain later this afternoon and into the weekend. Just in time to screw up the weekend for us. Thank you, Mother Nature...
No kidding about gas prices!!! I'm surprised that there have not been riots about them yet. Here in the upper midwest, it's currently at about $2.60/gallon; I spoke with some friends living in the SF bay area in CA, and they're paying upwards of $3/gallon! Ridiculous!!!!
Good thing I do the 'park-and-ride' routine and take the bus to work. What about you? Do you drive all the way in to work?
MG
Oh, is it? But I've not noticed it before. Anyways, I am quite oblivious lah. And hardly peep at SB. Can't even keep up with Night Owls sometimes. Slow lah, pai seh.Originally posted by Lance_han:tat is SBS speak..happens all the time..
Doing a double in computer science and economics ..... as for returning to singapore .... there's a war between my head and my heart at the moment, to be honest ....Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:Cool! What's your major? Any intention of returning to S'pore after graduation?

Oh yeah, Bear.........I see it now.Originally posted by the Bear:strangely, his monologue.. stems from an obsession with public buses
So the gas stations in Canada play the same game as the ones here in the US. In other words, they raise the prices just before the weekend to take advantage of the increased demand from weekend travellers, then drop it down at the beginning of the work week. Bloody predators, if you ask me.Originally posted by littlestream:Thanks MG, yeap, feeling better.
Oh, I heard our West Coast (BC) has been paying the dollar mark for a while already. But this morning, it dropped to 98 cents. We have to play cat and mouse with the gas stations. I noticed the pattern is price goes up in the morning, dropped in the evening and then up again after midnight. Then, got to catch the day of the week also. Typically, high on Fridays, catch those going up north, mah and come down again on Sunday. Okay lah, don't laugh lah. I know I have a cheap car or economic car but also can play the game, right?
I've done the park and ride when I worked downtown but after a taste of mid town, I like the proximity to home lah.

Your having an economy car is certainly nothing to laugh at, especially with current gas prices. Paradoxically, I'm still seeing a lots of gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs on the roads.

You are interested to go into the beauty business? Saw the movie, Cellular. The policeman retire to open a spa.

While I would not suggest that you outright do not return to Singapore, I would strongly urge you to take advantage of you current situation as an overseas student to at least sample what it is like to work outside of Singapore. Living and working in a foreign land may or may not be to your liking, but at least you can say you've tried it.Originally posted by Fatum:Doing a double in computer science and economics ..... as for returning to singapore .... there's a war between my head and my heart at the moment, to be honest ....
do you miss singapore sometimes when you're overseas ? ....

You can purchase a transit pass, known here as the Metropass, that allows you unlimited rides on all buses and trains in the Twin Cities metro area and surrounding suburbs. Some companies and organizations will subsidize the cost of obtaining Metropasses for their employees, in order to encourage the use of public transportation. In my case, I pay a subsidized amount of $60 per month for the Metropass.Originally posted by littlestream:How's your train fare? For me, if I work downtown, my fare will be about C$200 for a monthly pass.
Darn! And here I thought white tea was just regular tea with creamer in it.Originally posted by the Bear:
white tea come from the Camellia sinensis plant. But the leaves are picked and harvested before the leaves open fully, when the buds are still covered by fine white hair. Hence the name. White tea is scarcer than the other traditional teas, and quite a bit more expensive.
that's true ... my time over here has been an eye-opening experience ... and you're right ... time and liberties can certainly diminish any tug of the heart-strings .... but the most important factor in my decision i think, would be the jobs situation ... I suppose we'll all have to follow jobs in the end, wherever they are ..... and my major certainly isn't helping .... everyone's talking about outsourcing and the IT slump ....Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:While I would not suggest that you outright do not return to Singapore, I would strongly urge you to take advantage of you current situation as an overseas student to at least sample what it is like to work outside of Singapore. If you return to Singapore immediately after graduation, you might have lost your opportunity to gain a foothold into a potentially better life. This is just my humble opinion; the choice is ultimately yours to make. But give yourself that choice!
Aside from the food, I can't really say I miss Singapore much now. I might have missed it more during my initial years of living and working in this country, but the relatively greater freedoms and liberties here have done much to diminish any feelings of longing for Singapore.
