enjoy the city, have fun scuba diving and etc.. port douglas is the place to be =D, or you can go to the great barrier reef. i went to port douglas with my friends over december, we did scuba diving and etc.. saw one whale shark ^^. biggest creature i've seen up so close. and the cay's were so beautiful.. we didnt have a chance to go to a cay called upulo cay..
also, you can try christmas island which is an exterior island of australia
don't bother going to sydney, might as well hang around orchard road.Originally posted by SpeedStar:Wow, that sounds exciting. But if let say i want to go sydney, is there any recommendation??

yup.. whenever i go for holidays, i go to places that has great difference from singapore, i feel happier that way. lolOriginally posted by the Bear:take a bus ride or hire a car to go on the Great Ocean Road...
the aforementioned Souvlaki, Viet beef noodles, look at the very nice cityscape... go for a movie at the nice old Astor cinema where you feel you're in the 60s... walk up and down the city centre..
be a tourist..
sydney's just too fast-paced.. kinda like singapore...
hahaha!Originally posted by kopiosatu:melbourne has a mix of old and new buildings.

kopi, you can't work for the Discovery Travel channel, man!
For the pasta, as u walk down the street, I think its called Ferrari or something... ask for recommendations for the best, and order that. It either that or you pay $1 for a slice of pizza along the cafes.Originally posted by SpeedStar:I guess u have answer pretty much of my questions. Thks bro~!
PS: Does melbourne have natrual reserve or sight seeing place like what we watch in earth vision??
Cheers
MEKONG, yeah!! That's the one!!!Originally posted by the Bear:lots of places but outta town.. you can sign up at the tourist booths in the city...
viet noodles, just go to Mekong at Swanston Walk...
somewhere around the corner at Chinatown, is Souvlaki Bar, one of the better souvlaki places...
then you can go to Lygon Street, where the Italian restaurants are
Hey thks coffeeortea, appreciate u take time to write all stuff. Its very useful to me. I acutally have not been any of the place u mention, but i heard rendang island is a nice and beautiful place to visit. Will visit there if i have time for short trips.Originally posted by coffeeortea:sydney is basically too urban and stuff.. its like singapore 8 hours away by plane. i'd still recommend going to beach areas if you wanna go to australia, or try going to the deserts, very nice encounters with wildlife you will get.
personally, if you can afford, try going to maldives. it is said that the standard has dropped, i am not sure however. it was too expensive for my friends and i to go, therefore, we chose australia instead, the previous year.. we went to phuket/phi phi island in thailand.. that was the first time i experienced diving and got the padi cert ^^. thailand has cheap shopping, good food, and trust me, i enjoyed the diving/snorkelling and kayaking thoroughly. thailand is beautiful and economical.
i also heard about pulau redang, which is rumored to be even nicer than maldives. my dad has been there before, and he gave it a thumbs up, saying that he'd rather go to pulau redang than maldives, comparing the marine life/corals etc.. and also most importantly.. the price. maldives however, has unbeatable beach resorts =D
