This reminds me of a discussion I had my classmate when we were in Primary 6.
We figured that guys do not like to be addressed as something younger than their actual age, whilst girls/women do not like to be addressed as something older than their actual age. So the politically-correct term to address men are 'Mister', Ah Pek', 'Uncle', 'Ah Chek', etc.
For women, only use 'Miss'. -
during NS i make it a point to address the cookhouse ah sohs as "Siao Jie" ...... good way to get the best bits ....
