ok dicitionary's definitely of aunty : father's or mother's sister is called aunty..
and i think in the west, only very young children will address some close friends of parents uncle or aunt? (correct me if i m wrong) and the rest even if they are much much older, they would address them as mrs, mdm, etc...
here in Singapore...very funny...anyhow call one...even ppl who are older than u, call u aunty or uncle...piangzzzz...i think maybe cos ppl here take from the old chinese way of addressing 'da jie' ning yao mai zhe ma? etc??
The western way is 'good morning madam/sir...may i help u?'.... replace here by aunty/uncle in the market and hdb area.....
and even those just slightly younger, it feels odd to be called aunty by them....
but here, i don't care lah...afterall its a place for some ppl to crap. -

In any event, please realize that what one person considers a term of endearment ('Auntie') might be construed as being offensive by another. I think you should extend Rhonda the courtesy of respecting her desire not to be addressed as such.
By the same token, if you object to being addressed in a certain way, please let it be known. I'm sure the participants in this forum are mature enough to respect your wishes too.
But respect is a two-way street.
