You should put up more of these needs. Not monetary, but real needs (like books).
Would definitely donate. However, as I am overseas, I would, when I am back, bring the books directly to the home. Would love to volunteer my time, but then i am always on the road. -

All of you are welcome to joke in all other threads but for this thread, please let's try to be serious about it. These are kids who DO need our help, and this is a legitimate effort to help them build up their library so that they may start a good reading habit early.
Crap in all other threads. I need less crap in here so that it's easier for me to sieve through and gather the required info from those who DO want to help.

I went to Popular Bookstore yesterday and found quite a few good children's books on discounted prices!
An entire series of 'Tell Me Why', 'Tell Me How', 'Tell Me When', etc going for just $12.90 each. Or hmm... was it $14.90?
Then, there's the 1000 Facts about Nature hardcover book going for just $19.90!
So, looks like it won't cost THAT much to stock up a children's library for the kiddos!
Those of you who have volunteered to help in some way, your nicks have been listed on Page 1 of this thread.
A few of you have already mentioned HOW you'd be helping, like donating used books, etc. Those who haven't yet mentioned HOW, could you please be a bit more specific?
Once again, if you do not have used children's books / toys / games to donate, you could always purchase new ones for them.
Let's give ourselves plenty of time to coordinate this, so you can give plenty of thought to it, and save plenty to purchase well-chosen books for them. Let's target early January to bring all the books down to the Canossaville Home!
And actually, since we've got plenty of time, why not spread the word amongst your colleagues and friends? I'm sure there are lots of used children's books lying around, that can be put to better use! -

i have a friend who owns a furniture shop, i might be able to persuade him to sell us some bookshelves at a discount or something.... -

Yeah, the home knows. I've told them that we're going to start collecting new and used books to start a proper library for the kids.
As for the bookshelves, not sure how many books we'll end up collecting. So far, it's hard to gauge from the response. If we really end up collecting THAT many books, then yeah, we'll approach your friend re. the bookshelves.
Psst... I really hope that we'll have a need to get the bookshelves! Would love the kids to have a sizeable library. -

I think soon, due to the festive season, bookstores will be having discounts storewide.
Do lookout for those, and perhaps, purchase one or two, or more children's books for the kids!
Put them aside and then let us know in here, the title(s) of the book(s) you have purchased for them. We shall try to avoid duplication and also, it will help us to set up an inventory list as we go along.

There are going to be discounts available at bookshops cause of the season and all that, please do your shopping for the children's books! Even ONE new book from each of you will be very much appreciated by these kids! Nothing to us, but a BIG deal to them!
Please put up the titles of the books you've bought / collected for the kids in this thread so we can put up an inventory!
Spread the word among your friends and colleagues if you can! I'm collecting from my workplace colleagues too!
