I will continue being a nurse - I love clinical nursing.
I wouldn't want to be in Nursing Admin though, because I won't be able to participate in patient care anymore if I were to choose that route. I want to continue to hone my skills and become better and then hopefully, be good enough to guide the newbies who enter ICU nursing.
Only thing I cannot foresee happening, is remaining here in Singapore. Our locals do not appreciate nursing as a profession, on top of that, the remuneration and staff welfare is really miserable and leaves too much to be desired. Nobody wants to be treated and talked down to like a maid, and nobody wants to work for management who doesn't support them when patients and their relatives become unruly and unreasonable. That's why there are more and more locals leaving for overseas hospitals, and nowadays, it's no longer just the staff nurses and senior staff nurses who leave - even the seniors, whom we call 'Sisters', are leaving too.
By the time the higher-up's wake up, they'll realise that the exodus of trained talent would have left a gaping void. -
