I'll be leaving here with a job in hand. The question for me would be, 'Which job to select? Which hospital to work for?' and not 'Would I get a job?'
Sweeeeeeeet! Six years ago, I made a brave decision because I foresaw stuff that was going to happen when I was in my HR job... now, after putting in so much blood, sweat and tears, I'm going to reap the first fruits of my labour soon! Whoooooooppeeeeeee!!!

Hello, Weirdo80! Thanks! Thanks!!Originally posted by Weirdo80:Let me be the first Australian to wish you a big welcome to Australia! You will find our country a lot more hospitable than the little red dot.
Pack light, that's all I can say. Whatever you can buy in Singapore, you should be able to buy in Australia. Nowadays with e-commerce, anything is accessible easily. The only thing that you will really miss is the hawker food! The food here just doesn't cut it...but other than that, I am sure you will enjoy living in Australia like thousands of other people have.
Where are you moving to? *crosses fingers* QLD QLD QLD QLD QLD QLD....
But... but... my cookbooks collection is amazing!! I CANNOT abandon it!! Die die MUST keep them intact, either in storage here, or ship them over there!Originally posted by borgkilla:well good for you .. wish i could do the same ..
stuff to bring along
photo albums and any items that you have an attachment to.
cook books dont bother .. its really heavy
missy u going melbourne har? u need find lodging thr? temp?Originally posted by Rhonda:Hello, Weirdo80! Thanks! Thanks!!
I'm moving to Melbourne! The agent kept trying to tempt me by asking, 'Are you SUUUURE you don't wanna move to Sydney?', because there's a huge hospital there specialising in the discipline I've been in for the past three years but, heard from SL and a few other friends about the high cost of living in Sydney, so Melbourne it shall be!
Welcome to Club 30, Weirdo80! Make yourself at home in our online lounging pad!

Heard from SL that Dell PC's are cheap there and also, their service is pretty good and reliable.
Erm... not for me leh!Originally posted by tare:for a woman, this alone may requires a crate!!
Aaaaawwwww...Originally posted by InnoHippo:dont forget your favourite pillow/bolster/stuffed toy ........
if not, cannot sleep properly
I'll be provided with hospital lodgings for 2 weeks to 1 month, depending on the hospital I will be working for.Originally posted by tare:missy u going melbourne har? u need find lodging thr? temp?
Might just have to get used to not being online for a while because I'll be scouting for accommodation and there'll be more pressing stuff to attend to.Originally posted by choco B:IMO having a pc and internet connection is one of the essentials when overseas for extended periods. That's cos while most items are readily available over there, nothing beats being able to communicate cheaply and conveniently with loved ones back home, or having some form of entertainment when you're alone in a new city and may not have established a wide social network yet.
But that's just my opoinion. Cybercafes are good too.
bring them over to a salvation army poor box ? ...Originally posted by Rhonda:So many pretty pretty clothes... how NOT to pack them all??

Seriously Rhonda .... I think you need to book a container ....
Wow... thanks for the advice, TehJarVu! Very very useful!Originally posted by TehJarVu:you may want to bring your own cook books for asian cooking. those found here are not very good, too westernised. and get those that teach you how to boil (herbal) soup. Useful in winter!
and dunno if you will do a lot of printing using your printer? ink cartridges are very expensive in Oz. my canon one costs $16 in Sg and $28 here. so i always stock up in sg.
Spidee is right about winter clothing or any clothing. Better to get them here, not just because of the pirce. The "fashion" back home and here is different. You don't want to stand out by wearing something considered nice back home (eg from Robinson's?) but weird here.
i agree with Bear too, travel light. you will accumulate stuff in no time.
i have accumulated so mch stuff over the 4 years now I am having a headache with my move back home.
you can find 'hong you' here, but very expensive. haven't seen 'poh chai yun' though. i get my charcoal pills and other basic medication from back home.
i had to buy a vicks inhaler here 2 months ago (cos had flu), it cost A$7.50!!! I thought it is much cheaper in Sg?
OK. Non-essentials will be discarded / given away, depending on their state.Originally posted by the Bear:wrong..
start to throw away or give away non-essentials..
no point renting a storage space if you are going to store a lot of things you will never use...
