Yeah, SL told me that Dell PC's are pretty affordable over there. Plus, if you purchase over there, there's the warranty too.Originally posted by rainee:Bring some of those spices from home...dunno abt aussie, but here it is quite hard to get...
And of cos bring medicated oil...I brought a few bottles in fact when I went back for a short holiday 2 years back...

Simple... if he has migrated before, he would be here providing tips and advice to me, not being a huge sourpuss about it. Besides, if you've lived with different cultures and all, you won't be as narrow-minded and discriminatory either.Originally posted by sinnersotong:how u know he never emigrate before?
Hey, before you leave Melbourne, you really have to go meet Ged and gang! I believe Ged is trying to organise some sorta outing on the 17th? He's meeting supafatty, and trying to get Ling to go as well.Originally posted by fymk:Melbourne is a nice place. Not as chaotic as sydney . When u go there gimme me a tell , I give u my phone number and then maybe show u around if canberra doesn't want me LOL .
haha Dell PC's and laptops are among the cheapest I have ever seen...Now can get a Dell laptop for around USD 600, which is pretty cheap. But of cos, oso got its bad points, i dun tink it will last that long...Originally posted by Rhonda:Yeah, SL told me that Dell PC's are pretty affordable over there. Thanks, rainee! Lots of great advice!
I didn't have all that much stuff to move that time - what couldn't fit into the overloaded suitcases went into a 14kg surface mail box that took about 2 weeks to arrive.Originally posted by Rhonda:Ged, a question... when you moved back to Melbourne recently, did you use a shipper to ship your stuff over? If so, could I get the name of the company from you, and the contact person, pls? Thanks!
Aaaahhh... thanks, Ged!Originally posted by Gedanken:I didn't have all that much stuff to move that time - what couldn't fit into the overloaded suitcases went into a 14kg surface mail box that took about 2 weeks to arrive.
The big shift was in 1995 when I loaded up a large carton with my VCR, hi-fi and such. For that job I sent it by airfreight because they're a lot more careful with cargo. I had a contact in Thyssen Haniel who did it for me for nicks - can't remember the exact figure now, but I think it was under $300.
What?! fymk's leaving Melbourne? Is that short term or permanent?Originally posted by Rhonda:Hey, before you leave Melbourne, you really have to go meet Ged and gang! I believe Ged is trying to organise some sorta outing on the 17th? He's meeting supafatty, and trying to get Ling to go as well.
From what I know so far, the intentions are pretty permanent.Originally posted by Gedanken:What?! fymk's leaving Melbourne? Is that short term or permanent?
Anyway, spidee and I have worked out that Belgian Beer may not be the best idea, so we're looking at dinner on Lygon Street and chocolate at Cocoa Black.
My understanding of your question is that this is with regards to property??Originally posted by Rhonda:Ged, I heard a colleague tell me that the rental in Melbourne covers the utilities bill too... is that right?
No lah ...just waiting for reply from canberra side . Applied to work for federal government but see how first if I can pass their psycho test...er I mean psychometric testsOriginally posted by Gedanken:What?! fymk's leaving Melbourne? Is that short term or permanent?

Not usually. I've only come across one instance of utilities being built into the rent. Usually, your electricity, phone and gas are separate, while water and council charges are part of the rent.Originally posted by Rhonda:Ged, I heard a colleague tell me that the rental in Melbourne covers the utilities bill too... is that right?
