ooh, Lygon Street! I've heard so much about it.. can't wait to try the food there when I go over for a visit!Originally posted by Gedanken:What?! fymk's leaving Melbourne? Is that short term or permanent?
Anyway, spidee and I have worked out that Belgian Beer may not be the best idea, so we're looking at dinner on Lygon Street and chocolate at Cocoa Black.
Now don't go teasing the animals, rolex!Originally posted by ilovemyrolex:actually you can buy most stuff in Melbourne.
hope we won't be mistaken for being elitist if i ask whether you're packing your stuff in LV or Gucci luggage...
Nope, no A4-sized paper here. The standard form factor for paper is 8.5" by 11".Originally posted by viciouskitty74:items currently in duffel bag now:
Hello Kitty Towels x 2
Hello Kitty Single bedsheet, pillow case & blanket.
Hello Kitty cushion cover
2 different gun holsters & belts, ear muffler & safety glasses (me into gun sports)
2 pairs of cargo pants
Stationary: Pens, pencils, liquid paper, puncher, stapler rulers, pen knife, tailors measuring tape, erasers & hi-liters.
I've yet to throw in the huge folder holding my certs and legal docs & a ream of A4 papers. (hear that they dont have A4 size papers there.)
BTW, I am thinking of Las Vegas USA.
Oh ya , u better not bring the gun holsters ......and foreign aliens ( aka foreigners , non us citizens - that's what they call u ) are very firmly screened . And don't be surprised if immigration treats u like dirt . They treat their own like dirt as well unless they are multi billionaires or the politicians .Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Hmmm....I didnt have time to read thru the rest of the postings.
But yes. I am also in the same delima about packing.
i was hoping to reduce everything to a mere big duffle bag and a small luggage.

I also hear that I should bring along a decent bolster. Should I?

What will your immigration status be upon arriving in the States? It might be worth mentioning that, with very few exceptions, US visitors or residents who are neither PRs nor citizens are not allowed to purchase or own firearms.
And.... "Hello Kitty" bedsheets???
Well, I was hoping for at least 3 years.Originally posted by Gedanken:How long are you planning to stay there?
Uhh, towels, bedding and stationery? Why do that when you can get it there? Just bring clothes, your shooting gear and that's it.
As for bolsters, I'm fairly certain you can easily find acceptable substitutes in Vegas.
Hmm - 3 years? I'd suggest you leave the bedding and stationery behind.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Well, I was hoping for at least 3 years.
I needed a fresh start and looking for some jobs in USA that would allow me to indulge myself in some shooting sports, flying and riding. All those are activities which are commonly frowned upon by the society here.
Anyone knows anyone who might need live in babysitter?
HUH?Originally posted by Rhonda:Did anyone pack stuff like 'hong yew' (medicated oil) or boh chai yun (those little brown pills packed in little plastic tubes for diarrhoea and indigestion)? :

You can get these things here babe.
Which part of australia r u going to?
Please remember Lingee when u're in Melbourne. I'll take you to Showgirls Bar20. You can watch me perform. HAHAHA
Yeah, man!! They bite!! Maybe, they have rabies!Originally posted by Gedanken:Now don't go teasing the animals, rolex!
If you already have a contact in the US, I would suggest that you mail the holsters to him/her. That way, you won't have to worry at all about possibly being hassled by the TSA goons when you arrive here.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Well, for gun sports. IPSC or IPDA, if I can manage it. Yes.....Hello Kitty.
Hi Rhonda!Originally posted by Rhonda:Sooner or later, I'll have to start packing for my big move to Aussieland!!
I'm a forward-planner, so I just wanna get some opinions and suggestions from those of you who have moved overseas, either for work or studies.
What did you wish you had packed in your luggage for the move? What did you regret not bringing along? What's available here that we take for granted, but is not available at all, or hard to find overseas?
Thanks in advance for your help!
