as in majority of the home furnishings is from ikea?
any comments on it? like price...durability...practicality.. -
I don't have an 'ikea' home.
I've heard it said, though, that Ikea furniture aren't as durable and whilst the designs may be creative or arresting, they just aren't practical.
This is all hearsay from friends and colleagues.

i beg to differ. I find the items i bought from ikea simple and functional.
I've got a foldable table, a couple set of shelves and a CD cabinet...
Bed and cupboard from elsewhere... -

its cheaper than fully built shelfs which doesnt fit my room at all... -

My room has an ikea bed, ikea computer table and an ikea writing desk... As far as this goes, I have an ikea room
Anyway, I find ikea products fun as you can build everything yourself from scratch.. durable or not depends on your own skill la -
I like "ikea" furniture for they are made of solid wood.
Hate those made by glueing small wood chips together as the pieces would come off after time.
So, i think ikea furniture is more lasting.
Also well designed imho, they made an allowance for my bookshelf at the bottom as there is the wood thingy popping out at the bottom of the walls, the shelf fits nicely. -
IMO Ikea furniture is not that sturdy or lasting.
I purchased a bookshelf and sadly, its shelves warped when loaded with books. I could have overloaded them, past the permissible load weight, but then a cupboard's not much use if it can't bear a full row of books.
As for the "made of solid wood" claim, only some products are made of wood, others are made from some blend of "wood" like wooden boards hehehe. The facade looks fine, but don't look behind the furniture!
And then there is the dreaded assembly I purchased a bathroom cabinet, had the renovation workers to fix it up.. and it took 4 men to NOT assemble it They ended up with unused parts and told me we were short of some other parts. I junked the thing and bought a steel rack from Sim Siang Choon.
I do like the home accessories and knick knacks though, they're fun and well designed. e.g. photo frames, cushions and covers, rugs. Some stuff are innovative and hard to find outside too, like an L shaped shower rod. -
Well, with the type of climate we have, you cannot expect Ikea furniture to last for many many years. If there's a lot of humidity in your area, tiny fungus will likely appear on the chipboard surface (usually the underside/hidden side of the shelf). If you can live with that, some items can be value for money, e.g. I have an old bathroom shelf for > 10 yrs.

Me. In fact the whole house was furnished and designed by ikea. So far so good. 6 years and all the furniture still going strong. I think if you want furniture with a sensible lifespan, you need sensible users to begin with.

Anyway, them seem to last and not last.
My bunk bed is going strong but the paint on the ladder and wood seems to be coming off. -
actually, i don't mind that it falls apart.. it's served its purpose and being cheap, it's paid itself..
and i get to have new furniture!
