Little Kiki died. She could have done with some help

A little life was lost on October 17. I send my condolences to the little girl's family. She was my colleague's elder sister's youngest daughter Kiki. It was one week before her first birthday.
It was around lunch time that day when it happened. She was sick and needed urgent medical attention. Her mother rushed to the nearest clinic in Woodland Ring vicinity but it was closed for lunch.
Kiki was almost breathless at that time. Her mother quickly hailed a taxi to rush her to the hospital. Soon came a Comfort taxi but the cabby declined to pick them up even when he was told about Kiki's critical condition. The taxi driver said he served only the Woodland area.
Next came another Comfort taxi, whose driver obliged when told of the little girl's condition.
Kiki's mother asked the driver if he could speed up a little. Yes if the traffic condition allowed, he said. On the way to the hospital, the taxi driver saw a police car.
He sounded his horn and asked if the police could help by leading the way to rush the girl to the hospital. The police did not respond.
They reached KK Hospital. Kiki was pronounced dead soon after.
I've written this letter to ask why the first Comfort taxi driver refused to help even though he was told that Kiki was in a critical condition. Next is the police officer. Why can't he help? Isn't it his job to help people in an emergency? That's saving a life too. I believe he could have radioed back to his headquarters to report his status.
Lastly, I'd like to comment on the taxi driver who helped to drive Kiki and her mother to the hospital. You really helped a lot.

I am just thinking what excuses Comfort and the police would give when they write back explaining their actions or lack thereof.

Base on the story ....
she should call for ambulance...
for cab take note Woodland to KKH very far the child ...
at aleast there someone to help her before she reach hospital.
May be she is not claim ....

Perhaps the taxi was the nearest vehicle. Ambulance perhaps take 10-15min to arrive to where the mom is...maybe.

at least during the journey oxygen can be given....
at leart it help ...
they can give the child some first Aid it help alot ....
as for the mother she should try to clear the child air way and check is the food in the mouth....
my child also like that ....
must know some first aid base, by reading book it help alot. -
the taxi driver got fault he or she should help to call ambulance for the mother or get another cab...

ambulance is free for emergency they know First AID better than us.

it seems like shinta does not have much confidence in singaporeans.

Partly, I was gg along this line.. what if i'm the driver?
I'd be concentrating on the roads instead of the pavements... To look elsewhere and lose concentration may spell accident...
and like what most ppl say, she should have called teh ambulance... so.. instead of blaming other ppl, she should blame herself.
it's blurdy hard to get a cab in sg...
yes i noe we have a lot of cabs on the roads, but i dun think i saw enuff empty ones for hire... -

it is always easy for us to say something after the fact. we might not react sensibly when it happens to us.
she must have been very panicky then. it is a very 'natural' to think of flagging down a cab and rush immediately to the hospital. -
Emergency Call ambulance!!! They know First AID better than us.

let's talk about traffic.
ambulance can disregard traffic rules like the red n green man.. they can speed.
simple as that.
