Another unbelievable case of apathy?

People like to compare.
When singapore lacks in certain aspect, all the dirt is dug out, then compare with other countries. Why only hawaii and phuket? Coz thats the only 2 places the writer's been and got ok service. -
The point i am trying to make is that kindness from others is not an expected right.If others are kind to you,you can be grateful and enjoy it,if not just live with it
If not by your own standards if you think kindness is an expected right,why do you not even live to your own standard and give kindness in the form of forgiveness to the person? -
The runner makes a big fuss out of this issue. what is she trying to achieve? To shame someone? or to air out her unhappiness? There is way to do it, going to newspaper should not be in this case.
1) if she can argue, she is not going to "die".
2) She is going to Hawaii for Ironman. That is the "Premier" Ironman of the world. Either she is a professional athlete or damn good one. In Singapore(only a handful have qualify for it). She is a damn tough cookie wont break down easier.
3) Can taking ice cube cure heatstroke?
After reading the story, i conclude she is too pampered. If you are asking for a favour, you should be prepare to get rejected.
On the other hand, what is an ice cube? The person manning the shop should have "morally" given her the ice cube. Nevertheless, he might have other reservation why he did do it. We wont know the circumstance there, when it actually happens. -
Good point. In some countries, not only will the ppl not give her a cube of ice, they will even take her shoes and more if she did faint. How apathetic can S'poreans be?
THE apathy of Singaporeans is shocking. Last Friday, it was raining when a huge tree branch fell on my head in Selegie Road. I sustained severe head and shoulder injuries but other than a kind soul who ran over to ask if I was all right, no one else bothered to help me get up.
All I got was lots of weird looks as my clothes were muddied when I fell. I could not understand their behaviour.
We are lucky that Singapore is not buffeted by tsunamis and hurricanes. Unlike countries like Thailand and the United States, where people went all out to help each other during trying times, in Singapore the only thing people do is donate to charity.

I think the crux of the situation is that
the threat of heat exhaustion (which CAN lead to death)
to a long distance runner is very real
Giving someone SOME form of assistance
to alleviate a form of suffering
when it not only does not put you at risk/threat
but is merely an inconvenience
is... a just a humane action.
It is as simple as someone who is drowning and shouting for help
would you treat throwing a lifesaver to the person a Favour?!
The thing is a lot of people may not understand how heat exhaustion
can lead to a life threatening heat stroke and undermine the severity
of the condition.
Thus - apathy - I dont know enough so I dont care. and I don't care enough, to know more. -
Aside from the all-too-obvious apathy issue that is much too prevalent here...
Is the issue that we are talking about a Business (in the original ice cube story)...The gal has not only the right to "slam" him but a societal duty to inform others.
If a business owner says "I do not care if you and your friends never sponsor my shop" that also says that they do not give 2 sh** about the service or products they serve.
I personally appreciate her bringing the name out, as I would not trust purchasing anything from the stall either.
If many people hear about this who frequent the stall, the guy will be forced to add a little bit of care into his work, or go under.
