no way will we have young cleaning ladies no matter good or ugly looking.
We have being raised in a social enviorment where it is asking you to always aim for the top.How many of you have parents or have heard of someone's parent saying this,boy/girl ah,must work hard in your studies,if not you will end up like that cleaner over there.Essentially making the next generation further look down on such jobs.
As such, jobs like cleaning is deem to be a extreme lowly jobs that no one will voluntary work in esp for ladies. -
It's viewed as a profession there whilst here, it's a job that people consider to be derogatory and socially 'low'.
Did the article mention how much more the cleaning ladies over there are paid? I'm sure there's a HUGE disparity between the remuneration there and here. -

Look, they earn a pittance, almost everyone has this stinky attitude towards them, and they're in a job because they have no other choice, but they're making a hardworking, decent living.
Working under these conditions, treated badly and all that, you expect them to give you a 5-star award-winning service?
Then, increase their pay, spruce up their working conditions, improve their social status in our country!
If you want an industry to become more 'professional', you have to dig deeper into your pockets. Also, learn to be more appreciative of people in various rank and file first, starting from the very bottom. -

The ah kongs, ah mah's and moms and dads would still not want their kids / grandkids to be in certain service lines. They know that it's hard work and they probably ache at the amount of abuse they know their kid will suffer under fellow Singaporeans.
This mindset takes a long time to change.

i have worked as CRO at DFS and CSS at Taka.
the demanding and insulting behaviour of singaporeans are legendary. they make it a point to make service people feel small. -

why must we look at how service sector is by looking at the "beauty" of the cleaning lady?
At the end of the day is the end product that counts, not how good looking the cleaning lady is
