When we yelled at him in indignation, his wife showed my other friends the middle finger.
As a 15-year-old, I am appalled at the behaviour of these adults. They portray the ugly side of Singaporeans and give Singaporeans a bad name.
I hope that we can do something to change the mindsets of such people: that they are educated and therefore are above everybody else.

the author and friends were right in not hitting back. the author can choose to call the police but doesnt which shows how kind they are. writing to ST forums is a good mass media for telling us singaporeans. -

anyway, in cases like these... the most the police does is give verbal warning. but you lose out because u were slapped, and they get away with just a warning. if i were the kids, i'd fight back, even a kick to the groin oso i happy.
then both get verbal warning and be forced to apologise to each other. fair mah. -

With that in mind, hopefully, I'll be able to control myself from actually carrying that out!
I will definitely call the police and file charges. The couple should not be allowed to get away with such behaviour!

I think it's time for society to take action. Too many times, people get away with obnoxious behaviour like that because there isn't much repurcussions to the offenders.
However, if society was to stand up as one and voice a strong disapproval and chastice, things might start to change.
'Society' meaning you and me and our friends.
Too often, we'll act as bystanders usually do, blend into the background and hope to 'disappear' whilst still hanging around, watching the action. Or, some of us will siam ah! Chao ah!!
For instance, in the cinema, it's crazy but if you politely tell some folks to "Please stop talking", they won't listen and there are those who'll even snub you by talking even louder. Now, imagine the scenario if one asks them to stop talking and everyone else around there agrees and says, 'Yeah!' or 'That's right!', they'll be embarrassed into behaving. -

i've been the butt end of screwed up christians too. in fact. i'm so screwed up now, i wouldn't be going to church and all that if its not because my parents are dragging me there -

You see, If I am 15 and something like this happened to me... I would have suffered in indignant silence, possibly outburst (at home) and be completely unable to do anything about it to stand up for myself.... I think this girl very good liao to be able to write to forum about it.
Recently... I was walking home really slowly (carrying a few bags of groceries) when a young man in his 20s cycled from BEHIND me, bumped into me and then turned around to shout at me "WALAO, you don't know how to walk properly issit?!"
If it had been just a couple of years ago.. oh I would have suffered in silence, shocked and angry.
To my surprise, I raised my voice and said to him "HEY! YOU ARE THE ONE cycling on the pavement! You should be on the road! And still dare to be so rude!" I think he was surprised I reacted too.
Oh man.. I was so stunned I did it afterwards. Looked around kind of embarassedly but felt a little proud that finally... after the years of being queue-cut, shoved, victim of bad behaviour.... finally i spoke up.
