communications degree

me pursuing there.. since the people here generally ate more salt than me liao
i think here is a gd place to ask my questions...
getting 2nd upper or 2nd lower degree in my course -->> what kind of impacts and differences will there be?
other than communications line, what can i do??
anyway any opinions on communication deg?? suddenly feel lost.. hai dunno where this piece of paper can lead me to

Majoring in Journalism -
I think the honours help mostly as a first step in getting into the nicer firms of your choice, while you're a new grad. If the firm is looking for more experienced employee, then I believe the experience would carry more weight.
I would take this deg if it were available during my time. I hope you took it out of interest/passion?

heh.. i find tt in many of the disciplines that communications graduates go into after they leave university, the degree/certificate itself is really not as important as what YOU KNOW and what YOU CAN DO.. and also... of course most importantly WHO you know.
It is afterall a COMMUNICATIONS industry.. and if you can show your stuff, degree or not, first/second or third class or not... they will want you.
Then again, if u know your stuff, you shouldnt do badly
It's just that you shouldnt focus too much on academic and make sure that you get exposed to industry knowledge as well. Cos its damn different. -

like copywriter in advertising agencies.....
marketing executives.....
corporate communications (writing press release, newsletters...)
customer service
advertising and promotion
event management
and....errmm.......celeb blogger! -

Janice wong used to write a col for Streats (usually about her angst, bf issues, etc.) then went to Life, but now don't see her articles already.

Journalism (print/radio/broadcast)
Advertising (depending on your major - besides copywriting can progress to Art director or creative director)
Business Development
Broadcast (Depending on your major - Producer/Director/Editor)
Publishing (books) (Design/Marketing/Promotions)
DJs
The thing abt the majority of these jobs is that technically you don't NEED a degree to do them, and a degree doesn't guarantee that you can do them well. Be prepared to be in a very competitive market with extremely good poly grads who are far more hands-on and streetsmart. -
