i've seen enough documentaries to know what indigenous critters we have here that can do you much harm if you step on them...
and, like the ditz said, i think there are signs telling you to be careful coz there are such dangerous critters...
at least he wasn't as idiotic as an american marine who picked up TWO cone shells and posed for a picture with them near his neck.. he was dead before he hit the ground... -

I remembered this tale from a friend who loved to travel around the region.
She was in this lovely tropical island where the sand was smooth and lovely and the waters were clear and shallow. They were sitting around the beach, enjoying themselves when suddenly, someone screamed! They turned around and saw the tide bringing in this school of sea urchins towards them! They all screamed and ran the hell outta the waters before they were surrounded by the sea urchins!

and someone touches it and somehow survives but is a vegetable for life. Do you sue the electricity company for his stupidity and show compassion to him? -

Cone Shells or Cone snails as they are sometimes called have teeth like small harpoons and can penetrate clothing.
Habitat
Cone snails are predatory gastropods that inhabit mostly mud, sand flats shallow reef waters where the low and the high tides alternate
Diet
Marine organisms, worms and other molluscs.
Venom
The venom consists of numerous neurotoxic peptides and can result in the death of humans. The venom acts pre- and post-synaptically to give rise to neurological symptoms such as weakness, lack of co-ordination and disturbed vision, hearing and speech .Severe cases may result in death secondary to respiratory muscle paralysis. Less common systemic symptoms include nausea. Local symptoms of pain, swelling and numbness are common.
Pressure immobilisation first aid should be applied and left in place until resuscitation facilities are available. This is a medical emergency. Assisted ventilation may be needed.
Tetanus prophylaxis should be updated if required.
