We switched back to butter because of thisOriginally posted by Wanda:I know some folks would be happy to hear this - extracted from Mind Your Body today:
..It is generally accepted that consumption of saturated fat shd be kept low, esp for adults. But comparted to trans fat, saturated fat is a healthier option. This means cooking in lard is probably healthier for you than cooking with shortening or margarine that contains trans fat. This is bec lard has no trans fat.
Now don't go all out and consume copious amounts of lard and butter, you hear.
Yes, me too. And I've been buying peanut butter without fully/partially hydrogenated oil/fats. It cost a bomb lah and isn't easy to find, but I sure dun wan my arteries to be choked.Originally posted by elindra:We switched back to butter because of this

That reminds me of acrylamides, which are found in french fries and potato crisps. They are formed naturally during the cooking process, so the only way to avoid them is to stop eating them...or go for less crispy chips (the fresh cut potatoes used by some fish & chips outlets)Originally posted by elindra:They say trans fats cause cancer too

It's hard to believe it when Oliver said, "This is the first generation of kids who are expected to go before their parents."
The kids were all shocked when Jamie showed them how chicken nuggets were made. "Mechanised chicken" was made by throwing chicken carcasses minus the head and feet, into a food processor and blended, then the fatty skin was thrown and blended too. And then Jamie tells the kids, "This is how your chicken nuggets are made!" and they all went "Eeeew!".And most love McDonald's McNuggets

Why don't you eat proper gourmet sausages?Originally posted by The man who was death:I love my chicken frankies, the only processed food i regularly eat.
can't afford, it's too extravagant for a liao to pei with instant noodlesOriginally posted by Kuali Baba:Why don't you eat proper gourmet sausages?
It certainly can be! But that would mean that the manufacturers would have to use quality ingredients instead of all manner of junk as 'fillers' and the higher cost will eventually be passed on to the consumer.Originally posted by the Bear:i wonder.. can something as mundane as processed sausages be made into something better.. healthier?
I watched an episode where the teachers of one school claims that after three months of implementing the new diet, they no longer have kids who needed to use the inhalers anymore! They see more energetic kids with less respiratory problems!Originally posted by av98m:Finally caught an episode of this show and even I was appalled at the crap being served at school cafeterias in the UK. I may be a glutton, but I usually try to minimise my exposure to processed foods.
Throw them into the compost heap, and grow vegetables using that.Originally posted by the Bear:i wonder.. can something as mundane as processed sausages be made into something better.. healthier?
