wahaha. actually the so called sexual bits in the book wasn't sexual as in makes you feel excited kind of sexual. it was necessary to say it. the details of being a geisha and stuffs.
and i think if you are a famous geisha, you do not have to have sex with men if you don't want to. in fact, having too many sexual relationships with men will make you a cheap geisha...all these i read from the book de...not sure if i remember correctly though..but should be correct ba...i read the book like 2 years ago. wahha. but it left a deep impression on me. it is a very well written book. it keeps you wanting more...that kinda book. go read it k! ^^ very enjoyable. haha. -
No wonder that book remained in the Bestselling list for two whole years!

The early reviews mentioned that Zhang's England was atrocious...? And Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li got good reviews for their mature acting.

It's rather odd that they didn't cast a japanese actress
Still I guess the three female lead actresses are credible enough -
the book was uninteresting and forgettable ....
hopefully the movie would be better ....

Oh, really? I read in a film review that they were pretty impressed by how 'good' her English had become. She herself claimed to be studying the language very hard and is making progress. Saw in the newstand an issue of Time mag featuring this movie!
The headlines said something like 'Memoirs' being the first Hollywood movie with a complete Asian cast! I soooo wanna read that article! -
The movie opens officially on 16 Jan but previews will be shown tomorrow! Yes, TOMORROW!!
It will be screened past 11pm in cinemas though. I'm soooo tempted to attend but I think I shall just wait for it to start screening during the 'normal' hours first!

Lemme guess... you're all quite young, right? Teens to young adult? Cuz this age group would most likely not like this genre of movies in the first place! -

my advice is...
dun go if u wan to save money.
better spend it on the book if u havent read it yet
and yes, I cudnt understand the English being spoken there, even tho I am an Asian myself...and a lot of ang mohs who were watching together with me in the cinema that time said they cudnt understand it either... -

OK, an interesting titbit about this movie...
Watched the Ch 5 trailers where our local reporter, Michelle erm... something , interviewed the director and the lead actors and actresses in this movie?
She was dressed in a green kimono and spoke Japanese-accented English for kicks.
Well, in a recent issue of 8 Days, it was revealed that when she approached Zhang ZiYi speaking like that, ZiYi took an immediate offence to it, asking her indignantly, ''Why do you speak that way?''
Apparently, ZiYi interpreted that as an affront on her bad English and was offended. The interview ended shortly and abruptly.
And that's why you don't see ZiYi's interview in the trailers!

darn.. the copies are all defaced.. some were worse.. half the cover was torn .. -_-|||||||||||
others... got glue all over the top, and cos the book's white.. that's pretty obvious isn it?
