The ones who bully their maids are those who were never used to being in a situation where they had to take charge and be an employer.Lacking in workplace socialisation graces..Originally posted by fudgester:Singapore has once been described as a 'killing ground for maids'.
That's an exaggeration, but not by much either, methinks.
Seriously, would it really kill the employers to give their maids a day off once a week? Can those freaking employers themselves work seven days a week, 365 days a year for several years without a single day off? If their answer is 'no', then I'd say they are total hypocrites for saying that maids don't deserve days off.
As for the maid abusers in general... I don't care what their motivation to abuse their maids were. You are not expected to treat your maids like queens, but you're expected to treat them like trash either. If you can't respect another human being and treat her nicely, then you deserve to get jail. That woman who abused her maid fully deserved what she got. She gets no pity from me whatsover.
I only pity her children who has to go without their mummy for the next few months.
The maid is very hardworking and helpful and grandma has been more cheerful ever since she joined us.Originally posted by laurence82:Its really good to treat the maid well, but i think u got to put a limit. The newspapers got write abt maids getting help from their employers to upgrade themselves, whether pc skills or other stuff.
Treating the maid well materially and excessive, i wouldnt feel good abt it..
Dunno. Ask the offenders. Maybe, the men don't care about such matters and leave all household-related stuff to their wives?Originally posted by Gazelle:Why is it that most cases of maid abuse always involve the women and not man. PMS or just natural b.itch instinct?
Ah! YES!! A new perspective, but a very very accurate one!Originally posted by LazerLordz:The ones who bully their maids are those who were never used to being in a situation where they had to take charge and be an employer.Lacking in workplace socialisation graces..
Oh yes, call me blunt but those who got rich all of a sudden are not any better either.Nouveau riche without good manners and proper upbringing..what a tragedy.
Then we return to the majority of the workforce in Singapore.I don't think many are exactly chummy at work. with Bosses and all.Originally posted by Rhonda:Wouldn't it be gracious if employers were to treat their maids the way they'd like their own bosses at work to treat them?
Eg. Give the maids a small bonus at the end of the year for a job well done?
Recently, I was quite shocked to learn something which might have influenced (1).Originally posted by Ray2:i have 2 observations:-
1) it is unbelievable that the maids don't have proper off days.
2) parents in singapore do not discipline their kids so much so that even the kids are behaving like little masters over the maids, quite poor thing.
