They might set wages so low even the locals do not want the jobs, then complain that they cannot fill up the vacancies and ask for waivers so that they can hire cheaper labour from around the region.Originally posted by sbst275:Thought they have already set a ceiling of 80% of staff are locals or something like that?
Actually, by right that ceiling is to make sure they take the locals... Of course there are loopholes as what you have pointed outOriginally posted by av98m:They might set wages so low even the locals do not want the jobs, then complain that they cannot fill up the vacancies and ask for waivers so that they can hire cheaper labour from around the region.

If I also recall, when asked by an MP in Parliament as to how many of the jobs are reserved for locals, no direct answer was given. Only that 35,000 (correct me if I am wrong) jobs would be created.Originally posted by sbst275:It was already stated
The percentage I cannot remember that already, 6 mths ago liao...
You build the IR and end up falls to foreign workers... What's the point of saying jobs then?
Well, eventually 1 day there will be a better place for them to workOriginally posted by dragg:it will never happen. there are plenty of foreigners interested in earning singapore dollars.

Especially from countries with much lower cost/standard of living. They can send money back home which will buy far more than what we can here. Some of these workers actually have big houses and land back in their villages.Originally posted by dragg:it will never happen. there are plenty of foreigners interested in earning singapore dollars.

Naturally, if you're investing millions to billions into an IR, you'd want the best and most experienced folks in the industry to run it, right?Originally posted by dragg:created only.
there are many important positions not for us, but for the people of the investing country.
economic is real bad... dun complain. it's better to get low pay or no pay.Originally posted by dragg:i dont understand their mentality.
how do they expect to attract people with that kind of salary?
Actually, I'd rather have low pay cause at least, you're still working and can pay off your daily expenses. You won't be able to afford much but at least, not running on deficit.Originally posted by 798:economic is real bad... dun complain. it's better to get low pay or no pay.
