Especially from countries with much lower cost/standard of living. They can send money back home which will buy far more than what we can here. I wouldn't want meritocracy to be sacrificed for the sake of a protectionist labour market. The best man should take the job.
Besides, like a few folks in here have already mentioned, do you really think the locals will want the jobs like waiters, cleaners, etc? We might end up releasing such jobs to foreigners cause locals would shun it cause of the lower pay and shifts.

The longer one stays unemployed, the deeper into depression one sinks.
Besides, at work, you interact with colleagues and customers, which sometimes, makes life interesting.
It's kinda like the principle of falls in old folks - the longer the fallen old folk stays on the floor, the higher the chances of depression and the lower the chances of full holistic recovery. -
