What do you think is the amt of $$$ to set aside that goes to pay for the dinner, photographs, renting the car, the tux, the bridal gown.
how much can one expect to spend?
I have $5000 enuf or not? -
Most expensive thing will be the dinner and it's a killer
Greatly depends on the number of tables and the venue -
$5000 is definately not enough.

photo session range from 2888 onwards depending on how many prints n gowns n tuxes yr wearing.
dinners range from 388 per table onwards. this can some how cover back from hong baos if yr frens n relatives aernt cheap.... -

Weddings only come once in a lifetime (well for most). So it would be good to splurge and make it all grand and memorable.

I was trying to help a colleague with her wedding dinner by burning CD's of MP3's for her.
BUT, it turns out that these days, the hotels insist on you giving them the ORIGINAL CD's of the music you wanna play during your dinner!
What the!!! I mean, what if the CD's get stolen? And what if you're going to choose one track in this album, two tracks in the other? Wouldn't it be easier to compile all your selected music in ONE CD?
OK, probably it's due to copyright issues. But then again, why not show them the original CD's, then pass over the compilation?
Yet another headache and silly extra expenditure for the couple. Now, have to purchase original CD's too! -

Anyways, I think sometimes, to kinda be respectful to your parents, you might just have to end up throwing a small 'do at least. Otherwise, they'll give you no end to your grief! -
I think what's really meaningful is if everyone rolls up their sleeves to help with the wedding preparations.
But in Singapore, where everyone's busy with work and their own lives, it's close to impossible.

you need at least 3K for the gowns and photo shoots..
5-6K for the banquet...
How about the engagement ring? Wedding bands? Honeymoon?

5K is very limited funds. You will have to do alot of cost cutting, DIY & get help from friends & relatives.
Dinner - 5K buys you about 8 tables in a restaurant.
Photography - cut out the unnecessary like wedding album. Engage a budget photographer or get a friend to photograph your dinner / ceremony.
Car - borrow. 0 cost. make your own decorations
Tux - rent
Gown - rent , or go to a seamstress to make a dressy white evening gown
Makeup and hair - engage budget artist.
Bouquet, corsages - buy from market
