  5k is enough if it is not some fancy affair.
  
  Mine was a ROM buffet dinner kinda thingy at the hotel so
  
  Dress -S$250 (I bought off the rack ) I swear to god that the studio dresses which you rent are for girls who are pencil thin and I got so depressed trying them on that I told myself SCREW IT. The ones that fit me look ugly and makes me look like a whale.
  
  Shawl - S$25
  
  Pearl & Crystal Necklace - S$70 (Bought from Bangkok)
  
  My shoes - S$50
  
  His shoes - S$70
  
  Make-Up and Hair - around S$200 (Friend's friend did for me)
  
  Hubby's Outfit (Pants, shirt, vest, chinese collar Jacket) - around S$350 (Tailor-made in Bangkok)
  
  Photography - S$400 (Done by my uncle but he does this freelance. It was FOC but we gave him S$400 red packet)
  
  Dinner @ Mandarin Hotel (13 tables) - Around 12k
  
  Wedding Favors (Scented flower shaped candles) - Think we spent less than $100 on time for all....all bought in Bangkok
  
  Therefore, the killer was the dinner. You can try a less expensive hotel like Amara and having less tables. They have pretty good ROM Buffet packages. I think my friend's wedding cost around 5k doing what I do so yes it is possible.
  
  For the Justice of Peace...You just give him an ang pow if you get him to go to your location. Forgot how much we gave him though
  
  P.S. We didn't go to Bangkok just to buy those items. Just so happened I was there on a biz trip prior to our wedding and he tagged along with his free air ticket....so there was no cost to it....technically speaking. The items will cost more if bought in SG

  wedding dinner I think no nd go hotel, chinese restaurant shud be enuf mebbe the one at ocbc can liao.
  
  or split the banquet into 2.
  
  lunch for friends and colleagues at a rest. then dinner with relatives for smaller group at hotel.
  
  but den hor .. I can foresee that my wife will have a lot of headache planning it *giggle* I'm so wicked

  I think from time to time I'll just poke in and make a nuisence of myself and let her chase me out, dat way she cannot say I never try to help.... I'm sure she will do an excellent job and within budget for her pet project

  I've seen colleagues and friends becoming an absolute wreck over their massive marriage preparations, it's almost comical!
  
  They get so stressed up, they start snapping at their poor fiance over the phone at work, they grumble to everyone about their fiance's incredible passivity (but I think the poor chap's just getting out of Typhoon Fiancee's way! ), and they break out in zits!
  
  Watching them, it's quite cham!
  
  And then, there are those who'll put up their feet and are pretty relaxed about the entire thing. Man, that's what I'll want to do when the time comes for me to pull that kinda stunt! It's fine with me if the guy doesn't help to organise actively BUT, mai hiam hor! Because if he doesn't do much, and then hiam dang hiam sai, he'll get it, man! And erm... nope, I don't mean 'get it' as in happy happeee 'get it'!

  Huh....my wedding is already considered free and easy. It is not a sit-down dinner but a buffet dinner and I had it free sitting so no headaches on how to seat people
