"(When) we worked on Lord of the Rings, Roma was working on writing the lyrics in Elvish because of Tolkien's fictional language," she said.
"So when we went to work on the album she suggested, because we were working on this one song and we had great difficulty deciding on what the language was going to be, she suggested creating a fictional language called Loxian, which was absolutely so exciting."
Well, one of the songs in Kenshin, 'Escaflowne', by Shanti Snyder, was also in some 'new' language. But, it sounds absolutely ethereal and haunting!

One of my favourite songs from Enya remains 'May It Be', that haunting, celtic tune they played at the end of Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring, when they slow-mo'd the hobbits, Legolas, the Dwarf, etc climbing up the mountain en route to their dangerous and noble mission.

After listening to the CD a few times, I think that whilst Loxian is plain gibberish, it's appropriate in giving an ethereal, out-of-this-world feel to the songs. It does give an 'elfish' feel to it, that LOTR magical feel, and I think that's why they took creative liberty with using Loxian on a few of the songs in her new album.Originally posted by the Bear:that was the one they were making fun of
Afterall, when we listen to Opera or J-pop, K-pop, or even the recent Numa-Numa song that's not in English / Mandarin, don't the lyrics also appear gibberish to us?
But language has never stopped anyone from appreciating a piece of music, and conveyance of mood and ambience need not hinge on language and understanding alone - music permeates straight to the soul and speaks the language of the heart and soul.
So, Loxian or no Loxian, I applaud their creative direction in this album. -
I love Enya, bought that nice 4 CD set with the purple suede cd case with nice linear notes last year. Had no idea she has a new CD! Will check it out.
