Thanks, littlestream! Things got super bad last weekend when it so happened that the 'bad' folks were all with me on that one fateful shift. So, guess what? We have a couple of "these" here too. I know sometimes it's easier said than done but don't let it bother you. If it does, come back here and rant. We are all ears.
But I'm proud of myself, that I stood my ground nevertheless, and that when I was approached by the Nurse Clinician in charge, I was objective in my account of what really conspired.
In short, I did everything I felt was right at that point in time, and I did nothing against my conscience. I also stood my ground, despite mounting pressure to succumb to directive from a less-than-discerning leader that day. If I had done what was willed, I would have been in deeper trouble because I would have compromised my patient care. I'm proud that even when surrounded by seniors who weren't helpful and worse, had bad intentions in mind and resorted to bullying antics, I stood firm and held on to what I believed was intrinsically right.
In my opinion, I was the assertive rabbit surrounded by a pack of wolves that day, and, I survived!!
Got battlescars ... but 'tis ok... it has built up my spirit!

I've stood up for my juniors when my seniors attack them, the very way they attacked me.
I've also quickly made right the mistakes made by my juniors and didn't create further trouble for them by ratting on them to the Nurse Managers. Everyone makes mistakes initially and what's needed is gentle but firm guidance.

Standing tall, but not easy. For a while there, I was defeated, left wallowing in mud, tears flowing endlessly...
But friends rallied around me, a few colleagues encouraged me, and I'm back on my feet once more.
A mighty high price I paid, and am still paying, to pave my way to Australia.
Isn't it scary though... colleagues can actually be SO MEAN?! They seem to like to bully their juniors and relish seeing a soul in distress.
A few years back, they had a colleague who committed suicide because of problems with the love life... you wonder, these folks work with her day in, day out... did they not care enough to offer her a shoulder to cry on? Did they not realise that something was not quite right with her? Could they have intervened? -
