  I was forced to learn mandarin as a child coz my parents were English educated and they figured that it is important for me to be able to speak both languages well.

  my mum is liberal and english educated
  
  and they do clash sometimes when talking abt difference in values

  We as Chinese better know how to speak. I mean even the Malays and Indians are picking up the language.
  
  Good example is my hubby. He speaks fluent Mandarin as well, without any weird accents.

  My darling so mean...ask him to teach me Malay and Tamil he only teach me a few words...and most of them have to do with animals
