Ya, I dislike package tours ever since I went for one with my mum to Bkk and Pattaya donkey years ago....they made us meet at 6am to have breakfast!
But the planning a backpak trip is quite tedious esp if you have several places to cover, and then you'll need a contingency plan if you miss the bus/train, etc. *Sigh*....i need a break from all that.
You must brain-wash himOriginally posted by choco B:HAHAHA that's high standards siah...
Europe's lovely. I'm sure you'll get there, just takes abit more savings.
Damn if my SO considered that BKK trip to be the honeymoon....... then no hope for a "real" one liao T_T
It means that he wants to have a baby soonOriginally posted by Wanda:What's the meaning of clucky hubby?

I am gunning for Spain/Morocco/Turkey for my honeymoon
My SO have no excuse because he don't need to pay for the air tickets
Free air tickets are job perks of hisOriginally posted by choco B:Hahhaha....... yeah leave travel magazines innocently lying around.....
How come free air tix, frequent flier miles?
Well, if you haven't been there, London is easy....as long as the Underground workers don't go on strike, again. Plus, with your love of shopping and stuff...it would be perfect,e.g. can buy Marks n Spencer and The Body shop stuff at one-third to half price.Originally posted by choco B:2 vehement votes NO! LOL! The SO is overpowered!
I'm not sure if I'm up to the work required for a f&e trip... I might consier a leisurely packaged tour , if such a thing exists LOL
Otherwise, if f&e , it's gotta be a place that's easy to get around, and with little language problems, some place fail proof. Definitely not too ulu LOL

But London is more than a shopping city - there's also the arts, the museums, the plays and musicals. You can also rent a car and drive around the countryside in the south or the northern lake district (heard about the north but haven't been there) which should appeal to your SO.Originally posted by choco B:LOL Much as I love shopping he makes a lousy shopping companion. I'm very much a city girl though, I love urban scapes & environments & start to miss the city when away for too long, so London , NYC would be right up my alley.
P.s. europe, LV cheap leh . *giggles*
Originally posted by elindra:I do like the countryside as well though I'm very much a city girl
I think, knowing my SO he will select somewhere where I can't do much shopping
Actually I have this in mind tooOriginally posted by choco B:It's damn hard to cater to different tastes. Can't buy / carry much if you plan to travel around anyway.
We would like to go somewhere cold & where it snows.
The SO likes Switzerland and wants to go there to count sheep but I think that's alot of money spent on playing with lifestock
Perhaps a good compromise would be Hokkaido. Spend everyday nuah-ing in hot spring and eat sashimi at every meal LOL
You love sashimi, eh? I saw it on Japan Hour...it's lovely, isn't it? My gf went with hubby and 2 kids and said the rental cars have talking GPS to help you with directions. The GPS spoke in Japanese, but my gf said it sounded close enough to Mandarin so they could guess the meaning. And it not as expensive as Tokyo.Originally posted by choco B:Perhaps a good compromise would be Hokkaido. Spend everyday nuah-ing in hot spring and eat sashimi at every meal LOL

He wants to backpack Germany but I'm not the backpacking kind of girl.

My SO doesn't like urban cities and haven't been to London, but I told him London is a must-go at least once, coz it's such a happening place with lots going on.
I don't want to backpack Germany. Was refering to your Hokkaido compromise. Had that in mind as wellOriginally posted by choco B:I think backpacking in Germany would be quite an adventure. Not easy !

From what I see in Japan Hour, I would definitely backpack in Hokkaido and the smaller towns - then nuah at one place for as long or as short as you like. Some package tours don't even go to the small towns.Originally posted by choco B:How easy d'you think it'd be getting around Hokkaido (or Japan in general) on your own? Package tour or f&e better for this location?

If we ever go backpacking in Germany he'll end up having to carry my backpack as well
