Vacation Jobs

Round about this time every year, we'll start seeing a lot of teens taking on all manner of vacation jobs in various establishments. Are you one of them? Have you found a job? What job is it? And, what was your motivation for searching for a vacation job?
Each time I meet a teen manning a booth, or working at the cashier's, I feel happy. I also end up being more patient. Somehow, I got a soft spot for these teens because for a few of them, this might be their very first job and thus, their very first taste of working life.
I smile to them and feel like saying something nice to them. I see this young guy at Guardian Pharmacies trying so earnestly to learn how to use the cashiering system... so cute!
And then, there's this young girl behind the counter at Subway Sandwiches, learning how to make the right sandwich, peeping over her shoulder to look what has to go into the sandwich and trying very hard to be polite... awwwww! The transaction took a long time because the manager had to keep guiding her along the way but seeing her hard at work, I remembered how we all have to start somewhere and how we were all once very frightened and 'slow' in our jobs but later, with experience, we got better and better at it.
Generally, it's a great feeling to see these youths rolling up their sleeves to try their hand at working earnestly. If we meet them, let's be patient and keep encouraging them with smiles and even, words of encouragment.

part time work during vacation is important for those didi/mei mei to gain working experience.
its also part of growing up.
school can help to organise this vacation job, like attachment for students. -
That's true!
When I see a fumbling, blushing, kinda frightened didi or meimei behind the counter, I feel sorry for them and feel like telling them, ''It's ok! Take your time! Don't worry!''
Sadly, there are lousy Singaporeans around with that hoity-toity attitude who'll go around being impatient and threatening to complain and all that.
I mean, give all the didi's and meimei's a break! -
haha yep i've work part-time before as a manual labourer. but not bad lah because my fren had lobang, so $50 a day.
but i recently i found a civil service job also, 2 year contract, food and lodging included with lotsa draconian superiors... need to report to tekong for interview first i think. -

Pity, I couldnt stand the gossiping and backstabbing at my former workplace...
At least my current job is more fun now. I get to play with lightsabers. -

A while back, I was at KFC and ordered a choc fudge-coated ice cream cone. There was this teenage girl (probably a student on a vacation job) behind the counter. Must have been her very first day at work....and likely her very first ice cream sold too.
She filled the cone with ice cream from the dispenser, as usual....then inverted it and dipped it into the fudge pool, as usual. However, she left it in there like 10 seconds too long and when it finally surfaced again, half the cone had disappeared. The shocked look on her face
really made me laugh....
I just told her it was OK and took the cone and went off (actually, it was a blessing in disguise because half a cone = half the fats). -
That's funny!
That was also sweet of you.
You know what... she has kinda ruined the whole container of fudge though!
Sssshhh... don't let her supervisor know!

i pity those young girls serving me at fast food outlets..everytime see me blush blush,can count money always count wrong cuz always try to sneak peeks at me..haizzz....my gift my curse..

Try contacting the employment agencies for part-time work. Or, just turn up at hotels and such, and ask if they need an extra pair of hands.

Personally met before some customers who told me to take my time when I just started working as a counter staff. Serving these people make me feel more comfortable than those that just give you the face like saying your service is damn slow or those that simply speaks into their handphones while you are taking their orders halfway. But I transferred to kitchen now after I broke down once at counter.
To flatbroke, why don't try flipping through the newspaper to look for job? Saw an advertisement by Sakae Sushi about a week ago hiring full-time crews (students after O's or N's on vacation can also apply). Heard from one of my colleagues that their pay is about $5.50 (not very sure though because I never went to check personally), much better than what I'm getting now. -
... i am just so unlucky guy, every of my classmates had already got a stable job from the start of our holiday but not me.
i really hope to get a job now and earn some precious experience from it. My first hope was gone when i went to an employment agency whom i emailed and in the end it was go- home- and- wait- for- call case. I was suppose to get an job as a roadshow promoter but ended up waiting for their call.
The second shot was more terrible, after some interview i was said to be hired by the company to sell sort of electric appliance. The person in charge was so smiling and so encouraging throughout the interveiw and asked me to come back for training when she calls back the next day. I was hopeful i got the job. However i waited the whole day for the day for my training, but no call. I called back and guess what? She said she doesn't need people already and forgotten to call me to inform me.
i am lost now. anyone know of any job? pls tell me... really desperate for one... -

I know some F&B outlets which are in need of service staffs...if you dont mind the hard work that is...
Or you can always be your own boss by making jewellery and selling them to your friends. -

No matter how much i want to bum at home.. my parents wouldnt let me.. they juz cant stand the sight of me staring at CLub30 thread on the screen.
N of course.. they wanted to quit giving me living expenses..
Working was fun in a way. -

The cups holding the spoons at the B&J outlet I went to tonight had cute hand-drawn fonts and smileys. It could only be the work of the teen staff.
