) and when she turned around to face Kun Lun, the slave (acted by Jang Dong Gun), she held her arms across her boobs... quite boobsy leh! -
WARNING!!! For those of you who have not watched the movie, the following will be a spoiler! Proceed at your own risk!
OK, I promised to give my verdict of The Promise, so here it is!
I give The Promise top marks for cinematography, for its picturesque scenes, and for the vibrant colours used in there. And oooh... oogling at Jang Dong Gun!!
However, after watching the movie, I was very ... buay song!
Tell you why... but I warn you again, after reading this, you'll kinda know most of the story already so if you intend to go watch it, don't read on!
First off, there was this evil goddess who seemed to lurv seeing her subjects suffer! She took advantage of a poor, hungry orphan girl and lured the little girl with a life of food, pretty clothes, and beauty but in return, the poor girl had to agree to a loveless life - she will never find True Love and if she did, she will lose it immediately!
What to do, the poor char boh gina was soooo hungry and was dressed in dirty rags so, she agreed. The goddess then flew off in her yards of cloth, very happy that she had conned a soul!
And then, when she grew up, she became a horny seductress, ever ready to seduce men, esp powerful, hunky-dory men! She definitely wasn't a V - neither Virtuous nor had moral Values and erm... of course she erm... wasn't a V lah!
Men fought for her, and she seemed to love it. She was ever-ready to bounce from one powerful man's bed to the next. Quite the slut, really! Didn't like the leading role, so, didn't enjoy the movie as much already.
I cried for the poor General because he really lost everything, as predicted by the evil goddess. She seemed to relish in revealing his future to him - that he'll lose everything and die with nothing. Once again, that goddess is eeeeevil!! There were no other deities who made their guest appearances on the show so my guess is that she was so evil she killed off all her other Heavenly colleagues so that she can hound the limelight!
And then, there's this Duke (Nicolas Tse) who was very evil and effeminate. Quite gay! He made his appearance with this long, flowy robe with tiny flower print! And he has this fetish with feathers!
At the end, before his demise, he became a snivelling, sobbing idiot, telling Cecilia that it's all her fault because when they were kids, she bluffed him, and because of that, he never learnt to trust and never experienced lurv and so, in the grand, theatrical style a la Oprah's show, he blamed all his problems on a very stunned lady!
Go watch it for the breathtaking scenes, the pretty people, but take the storyline with a pinch of salt. In other words, leave your intelligence at the door! -
Another piece of Trivia - The Promise is the FIRST Asian movie to be released in digital format in Singapore!
I watched it in Digital format at Cathay Cineleisure. Didn't have a chance to compare the quality between digital and the conventional 35mm prints but the colours were astounding!
Apparently, four other screens in Eng Wah Cinemas will also be screening the Digital format. -

Dunno leh... I used to think she was quite erm... wanting frontally, but after that shot, I was proved wrong!
OK, I think that scene would be the most memorable scene for a few chee ko pek men! -

I'm suddenly reminded of the other 2 great constants besides death and taxes. Selfishness and horniness. (credit goes to Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert for that little gem of wisdom)
Even the most powerful warriors are in the end betrayed by their horniness. Or as Ling from Ally McBeal used to call it, their "dumbstick" -
