Just went to tabao nasi lemak supper at one of the prata shops along jalan kayu
the guy who prepared the nasi lemak for me... placed the rice nicely in the centre...
put the fish on one side, chicken strategically on the other side, gently scooped a spoonful of ikan bilis then finished with an egg on top.
Finally he folded it into half then used the counter to make sure he folds a straight line at the two wings on both side
then he pass to me and apologised that his packing is not good.. sorry.
Hehhe.. so power leh. -
Yeah...
when a salesperson wraps up my garment carefully in the nice white soft tissue, slides it into a crisp new paper bag, tapes up the top neatly and hands it over with a smile, it does make the experience and item extra special

This reminds me of the boss who took great care in making each cup of lipton tea when he was operating the kopi stall at the funan ctr foodct.
He would pour out an exact amt of tea using a measuring cup, an exact amt of evaporated milk using another measuring utensil, add sugar, mixed them in the cup with hot water, and diligently stir the tea slowly, as if to ensure the precious liquid will not spill. He was like concocting magic potion, and it was one of the best teas I've had in a foodcourt.

pride in work is good...
i try to instill this in my staff but it's hard... so gotta lead by example..
unfortunately, i see a lot of the other type of pride in people's work... hubris..
anyway, looking at the "service" culture the bigwigs are trying to cultivate, this is something they should look at.. pride in their work..
it would start by showing the staff respect and actually treating them well and as an asset instead of just paying lip service to those principles...
coz it's sad if in my organisation, they keep ranting about "our staff are our assets" while actually treating them like dirt.

Happy employees tend to perform better at their jobs and give better service. Looking at the shit pay and almost non-existent benefits packages of most retail/service jobs, is it any wonder the standard of service is lacking?
Another problem is also consumer/customers' attitutes. I've found that in Singapore, if your prices are cheap enough, you can be downright abusive to your customers and they will still come. -
