Am wonder: is the average-income cardholders' mkt being flooded with platinum cards now? We are definitely far from earning those platinum level salaries, as far as I know. So what's happening?

i cut it up and returned it to them.. they called and asked why.. i said "hey.. my income isn't that much and i'm happy enough with my normal card"
I see....i suspect something like that. My card is free for years, no need to pay subscription, and I've only been with them for 1 yr...and i guess in the cr card mkt, that might be considered loyal, huh.Originally posted by elindra:Platinium doesn't carry the prestige anymore
If you notice, the subscription you pay is higher than a normal card
They also treat it as a reward for good customers who are loyal
DBS was giving 2 free amex cards - one platinum and one gold. The one my SO got was posbank Everyday card.Originally posted by choco B:Haha I think I got this too... amex?
Coz Credit sales peeps need to boost their sales when the market is getting saturated.Originally posted by Wanda:DBS was giving 2 free amex cards - one platinum and one gold. The one my SO got was posbank Everyday card.
Sigh...like that no more prestige, so what's the point...might as well forget it, since everyone gets it. So silly and waste of resource.

To do so is either get new customers or get current customers to upgrade

If you use a credit card merely as a convenient means of payment and pay off your balance in full every month, then it should not matter what kind of card you carry.
My primary credit card is still the no-annual-fee basic American Express card that was issued to me in 1988. I've always paid off the balance in full every month and have never been charged interest. Sure, they've 'upgraded' the card to 'Platinum' status, but that means nothing to me. After all, what need do I have for a US$250,000 credit line?

They're not sillyOriginally posted by Wanda:BTW, this current spate of free card upgrade - tho' they've upgraded my card to platinum, but the credit limit is still the same - low credit limit.
Silly, silly jokers.

i was laughing so much i think they got the message
It's a free card, as long as I charge a very minimal transaction...and they've extended it to 2010. No need to pay for sub fees since there are so many free cards around...unless u like some of their promo like the ladies' card that sort.Originally posted by elindra:They're not silly
If you accept it you be paying higher subscription fees
Just curious: is it easy to apply for a no-annual-fee credit card in Singapore?Originally posted by the Bear:they wanted to give me the gold card years ago.. same limit, but i had to spend more to get the annual fee waived..

wow what a hassle... getting credit rating verified etc.Originally posted by the Bear:usually, they offer 2 to 3 years free... then they hit you with the charges..
however, most just cut up their card and go with another lot with the aforementioned 2 to 3 years...
keep hopping and you never need to pay the charges
Credit card companies HATE people who pay upon time, and in full.Originally posted by the Bear:strange thing.. they've never gotten one extra cent from me coz it's always paid in full
