That's a liquor that goes a looooooong way back!
I think it was very popular in the 19th Century? But it was somehow believed to be toxic for some reason and thus its popularity suffered a huge blow.
Now, it's making a comeback.
I read that in a foodie mag.

I think when I reach Melbourne and am settled with my own place, I'd consider purchasing the DVD sets for Desperate Housewives and CSI!

it is.. distilled from wormwood, it contains thujone..
use and abuse of thujone causes addiction, nausea, convulsions and death..
it is also insanely high in alcohol content.. usually around or above 180 proof.. that's 90% alcohol...
usually served drizzled over a sugarcube with an "absinthe spoon" which holds the sugarcube (if you watched Dracula starring Gary Oldman, you may remember Mina and Dracula sharing absinthe)
