I'm starting to dread it
The thought of intrusive questions about "When you're having babies" and such is a turn-off, plus Chris is refusing to apply for leave as he wants to avoid the nonsense and also the nice renumeration he'll be getting if he works on CNY. -
Kinda... but only cause of Reunion Dinner.
This year shall be my last Reunion Dinner with my family before I leave for Australia.
I'm contemplating purchasing a few hong bao lantern kits so even when I'm in Australia, I can create those hong bao craft thingies and hang them around the house to get a bit of festive spirit!

I really wonder if anyone will celebrate CNY after the older generation have gone -
CNY is a lot more fun when you're a kid.
The food! The sweets! The red packets!
The fun and games and mischief with your fellow kids!
And the fireworks! (if you celebrate in Malaysia..but now cannot already)
CNY as an adult:
If you're married, give red packet until scared
Also if you have no kids people will keep asking why not
If your single , and am no longer young, you feel embarrased to receive red packets
And then they will ask you why no girlfriend/boyfriend etc -

e.g. Wedding Dinners, Chinese New Year etc -
Well, as each year passes, Im starting to find CNY a bore. EVery year, I go up to the same relatives, repeat the same greetings and say the same things. Its getting too monotonous. Perhaps, the good thing is the red packets.
CNY was so much more fun when I was a kid....sigh -
i only like red packet and maybe a chance to meet up with my mothers side cousins and to gamble..other den that,visiting and getting visits is a big nono..orh yar the 3 days off is good too..

The people make the festivities miserable, not the festival itself. The drive to do it bigger, better, grander, more $$$ involved and the boorish behavior exhibited distorts the festival / occassion so much that in the end we lose sight of the meaning behind the occassion.
As long as we try not to repeat the acts that we hate to see when we become the "older generation", we should do ok -
