then why are you complaining about meeting up with close relatives during CNY? just because of the ang pao? If so stingy dont give lor....Originally posted by elindra:
We dont' wait till CNY to meet up with close relatives It's something that happens throughout the year.
As for distant relatives, there really isn't any point (been cutting down through the years) as it's always a hi-bye affair and kinda hypocritical I think.
As for Christmas, it is a yearly affair for both family and friends. No I wouldn't say we spent that much
Not coz of ang pow laOriginally posted by Gazelle:then why are you complaining about meeting up with close relatives during CNY? just because of the ang pao? If so stingy dont give lor....

The close ones won't ask that much
The distant ones will grill about when you're having a baby
You're not getting younger
Gets spice up your life (my eyes look at their kids tearing down the house)
blah blah blah
Gimme a break
Just because of that? what about those who are older and not even married...Originally posted by elindra:Not coz of ang pow la

you cant blame them for it because your mom did the right thing and thats why you are here today. Kid tearing down the house? you mean you were different from other kids?

"when you going to get a girlfriend?"
"Huh, new gf, what happen to the previous one?"
"What is your job like?"
"How's your studies?"
"So old already? when are you going to settle down?"
"When are you going to have children, you are not young anymore, ya know?"
alot of Q&A. i believe none of you will like it, but isn't that gathering wif relatives is all about? just treat it as show of concerns. this is the day where chinese family reunion is all about.
i prefer cny more than xmas day. since i am not a christian anyway and what for i bother about jesus's birth?
Well I guess it depends on each indivual need on privacy.Originally posted by 798:often relatives will ask me:

i was wondering why vesak day and hari raya not as special as christmas.
what's his race?Originally posted by elindra:Well I guess it depends on each indivual need on privacy.
For me, I find it EXTREMELY INTRUSIVE and the questions put to me goes being concern and goes on to be what I term 'kaypohness'
This is especially so since my hubby, than bf is not chinese.
You can't imagine how stupid some questions are and how intrusive some are to the extent of wanted to INTRODUCE Chinese guys to me. WTF.
Now the next 'diplomatic' question I think I'll hear alot is "I wonder how your kids will look like"
u chose to marry an indian blah and no offence, i feel old fashion chinese sure have a hell lot to gossip. just smile and heck care themcos afterall they are still your relatives even though they are mean.Originally posted by elindra:Well I guess it depends on each indivual need on privacy.

No No NoOriginally posted by margarita:Reunion Dinner is fun but the Visiting can quite tiring and dumb. You visit you relatives at their house then the same relatives visit you at your house in return.

This year is my turn to prepare
I don't care about gossip la. They want to gossip all day behind my back it's ok. The thing is, the way they question is so downright insulting that it got intrusive and offensive la. (Of course not all my relatives are like that. There are those who look beyond race)Originally posted by 798:u chose to marry an indian blah and no offence, i feel old fashion chinese sure have a hell lot to gossip. just smile and heck care themcos afterall they are still your relatives even though they are mean.
my auntie (in her late 70) was worse than that, she went to mock at my cousin-in-law, "So many years married to Ah Cai (my cousin), u cant even lay an egg." of course, everyone in the house, even the cousins laugh at the hardcore joke.
old pple are mean, but they mean well. it's not that couples nowaday want to give birth, but bringing up a child is not affortable these days.
Hey, I guess we were brought up with ah ma's from the same generation!Originally posted by shinta:we can run around the place..
but we're not allowed to touch anything.... that is placed anywhere... unless the host allows us to do so...
i didn realise what a good habit that was until nel pointed it out to me...
he said he dislike it when ppl touch his stuff... without permission be it display or not
