I agree! If it involves things like stealing or lying or cheating, it's good to impress upon them that such misdeeds won't go unpunished.Originally posted by Fatum:I'm not sure about that ... I think a few sharp lashes when a kid gets out of hand is quite useful ...
Yeah! Each bottle probably had one bucketful of sugar thrown in! I tried it once and YUCKS!! It was sooooo thick, you could feel the grains of sugar still in it!!Originally posted by Fatum:trust me .... the orange flavoured ones are worse ....

Go too soft on your kids when they're in their toddler years and you're sure to end up breeding monsters! See how so many kids are spoilt brat these days, with their 'softie' parents running after them saying, ''Children, don't do this! Don't do that!'' and they don't listen at all.
Children learn very very fast just how much they can get away with, and just how much of a pushover their parents are! They NEED to know their boundaries. Parents need to be firm.
Well these days parents hardly have time to look aft their kids on every aspectsOriginally posted by av98m:I see plenty of those little monsters at libraries and bookshops
Yeah! Well enough to be so super humble about it too!Originally posted by av98m:Hanor honor! Look at how well I turned out!
*pretends not to notice the people who know him laughing themselves silly at that statement*
Ah well, those force feeding days are over anyway. I was underweight when young, and my mother would think of ways to correct the problem. I think it worked too well. Now I can stand next to ang mohs and not look small.Originally posted by Rhonda:Yeah! Each bottle probably had one bucketful of sugar thrown in! I tried it once and YUCKS!! Now, av98m, your mom was just making sure that you don't become diabetic at that age!
I will if my kid steals. In such urgent cases, you NEED to teach them quickly that stealing is bad and will not be tolerated.Originally posted by sbst275:Sometimes some cases needs to be firm...
Because I wun use the rod
I will smack him or her...Originally posted by Rhonda:I will if my kid steals. In such urgent cases, you NEED to teach them quickly that stealing is bad and will not be tolerated.
Hmm... I think we should actually dilute the tablespoon of orange-flavoured cod liver oil with some water and drink it as orange squash!Originally posted by sbst275:Well these days parents hardly have time to look aft their kids on every aspects
Anyway, the orange flavour is simply too thick
Orange Squash? ... Might as well buy 1 bottle of F&N CordialOriginally posted by Rhonda:Hmm... I think we should actually dilute the tablespoon of orange-flavoured cod liver oil with some water and drink it as orange squash!
Cod liver oil-fortified orange squash!
Eeeeeee... orange juice with fish oil! That doesn't sound too good! Bleah!!

Frankly, I think a lot of parents nowadays are ill-prepared for parenthood ....Originally posted by Rhonda:My mom had a 'killer stare' that would shush me up immediately each time I attempted to throw a royal hissing fit or tantrum in a public place!
I'll start whining and what-not, esp if I saw something I wanted and she refused to buy it for me and she'll ignore me and walk on until I made TOO much of a fuss then she'll turn abruptly and glare at me and I'll stop mid-whine and back off.
I tell you, if looks could kill, mom could've killed me many times over that way!
Look at the kids these days... the parents don't seem to know how to control them when they start throwing a royal hissy fit. Quite confusing to watch too - you don't know whether to feel sorry for the parents for having such a strong-willed child or whether you ought to feel sorry for the child for not having parents who can teach him/her what's good behaviour and what's not.
It's sad when you see parents who are totally 'lost' and look like they don't know how to handle the situation and control their kids' tantrums. Now, that's really really bad!
I think a lot of parents these days expect the ministry of education to completely take over the raising of their children for them. And they actually blame the schools/teachers/principals when their kids get into trouble.Originally posted by Rhonda:Look at the kids these days... the parents don't seem to know how to control them when they start throwing a royal hissy fit. I remember my primary school days when many male teachers welded the cane, and female teachers welded bony palms for slapping ....Originally posted by av98m:I think a lot of parents these days expect the ministry of education to completely take over the raising of their children for them. *shudders ...Originally posted by Fatum:I remember my primary school days when many male teachers welded the cane, and female teachers welded bony palms for slapping ....
I can't say I'm nostalgic for those days, but I think something is seriously wrong if teachers are more "afraid" of students than the other way around ...

We have almost totally lost our chinese culture..

I can say without ego that Singaporean Chinese are more Chinese than the Chinese in China ....
Believe me, we retain more of the traditions and values (especially the latter) than those in the "ancestral land" ...
and I don't think our mandarin suck at all ....
Actually he's quite right. I know some chinese who have settled down in the US. They seem quite determined to erase every single shred of chineseness from their being! Right down to refusing to buy china made products, believe it or not!Originally posted by Rhonda:
Erm... that's quite some claim you're making there, Fatum!
