How much Mandarin do you remember from your school days ? ..

Well ... this thread has it's genesis in the Crapbox ... but it's something interesting to think about eh ? ....
So ... How much Mandarin, written and spoken, if that was your mother tongue in school ... do you remember now ? ...

Chinese and Maths were my worst subjects in school! Always rank amongst the first few... from the bottom one!
Spoken, can get by. Pretty ok.
Written... erm... kinda non-existent by now.

well ... I surf the Chinese web every now and then ... so I think I can get by on my written Mandarin ...
I think I'm starting to get an accent because the only time I get to speak Mandarin over here would be when I'm around the Chinese students here ...

I was an ang moh lang. Working in an environment where I occasionally dealt with tourist forced me to speak chinese....and now, my ang moh accent is gone...

can read, can write, but when i write them out, they look like some alien symbols..

I don't remember much Mandarin DURING my school days to start with. So now , I read and write with the bare minimum.

nel can read, can converse, in mandarin... but he's hopeless when it comes to writing..

Reading is definitely no problem i can understand comics completely, writing would be a problem.

At one stage, I was so inspired by a Qiong Yao TV series (and nope, NOT the ku1 ku1 ti2 ti2 ones! ) that I attempted to read the trilogy! It was the Plum Blossom Trilogy.
Man... every paragraph, I had to flip my dictionary to find out what a word was. Quite tiring but I managed to finish the trilogy!

But if you ask to write in hanyu pinying, get F grade -

Sometimes i think i regconise big 5 chinese words better than simplified, cos watch too much taiwan variety shows see their subtitles.
Also, kinda wierd surfing chinese site in simplified, dunno why more familiar with big 5 -

But improved tremendously......after living in Canada.
Oral and reading - no prob.
Typing - still can because got selection mah
Writing - forget it! Torture!!!! -

i still remember man jiang hong by yue fei from my chinese literature
but i struggle to write a simplest sentence -
Failed every single Chinese class from Sec. 1 onwards. Gave up trying to speak Chinese during the GCE 'O' Level 2nd language oral exam, and finished the conversation in English.

through a sheer miracle, i passed my O-Levels..
when i got to JC, i got F9, then F9 again.. i studied really hard and for the last one, i got E8
ironically, only after i started working did my mandarin improve
but must say.. i still spit mandarin rather than speak it -
