well of course there can be many reasons .... maybe the japanese are experiencing falling birthrate because rising affluence allow them to indulge in their favourite past-time more often: piping hot steam baths ... and lots of men got their balls cooked ...

Actually I believe that the Japanese are choosing not to have kids because of several reasons, including poor financial outlook, overcrowding, overly long working hours etc etc etc. This happens in all overpopulated developed countries I think. the ironic this is that the more well off a society is ... the less inclined the population to pro-create ... it's a story repeated all over the developed world ...
on the other hand ... countries at the other end of the economic spectrum, to put it bluntly, often "breed like rabits" ....
I remember watching a documentary about the Brazillian slums ... one woman interviewed had 10 children, yes 10 ! .... even though she barely ekes out a living picking rubbish from the dump, so do her children, of course .... and the story gets repeated all over the world .... the Philipines, some countries of Africa, Indonesia etc ..... and the cycle of poverty and depriviation continues ......
family planning should not be a dirty word .... and if we want to strive towards a more equitable distribution of wealth and resources between the haves and the have-nots, then we seriously need to take population planning into account, now .... aid and charity can only achieve so much ... and, the cynic in me says it's only something done to make donors feel good, but nothing is done to get at the root of the problem ... and so nature does it her way ... epidemics, diseases etc ...... a much bigger tragedy don't you think ?....

I think the main issue here is that if porn does get legalised, how does one keep it away from the kids? I'm sure none of us want our younger siblings in primary school to get their hands on it.
Of course, there will be minimum age for buying it, and only at strictly-regulated stores, but there's no stopping an 18-year old from buying a porn mag for his kid brother. -
