Sorry, not true. I heard you only go blind if you engage Mrs. Palm and her 5 daughters. Or was it you had hairy hands or lose a pint of blood or some kitten gets killed somewhere....can't remember.Originally posted by Rhonda:Hmm... let's see... if both of them turn out to be nymphos, you'd go blind in a week's time!

Phew! Thanks for clarifying that it was a joke. I thought I was really running the risk of going blind.Originally posted by Rhonda:OH boy... can I even joke without being factually accurate?

There is an archaic belief in family law jurisprudence that once the wife has 'grown accustomed' to a particular standard of living, she is entitled to it even when the marriage breaks down. The period of wife support varies according to the length of the marriage and may well be for life if it is 10 years or more.Originally posted by laurence82:Why must i give 50% away?
Sorry to be a batting for the other side here. But my undersatanding of the law is now more reflective of the contribution the wife/spouse has put into the household as a non working partner. If it takes 2 to make a family then it is fair to ensure each side is compensated for their contributions, where it was paid work or non-paid housework.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:There is an archaic belief in family law jurisprudence that once the wife has 'grown accustomed' to a particular standard of living, she is entitled to it even when the marriage breaks down.
Eh, er......sorry ah, I have to dispute with genuinely no intention of putting you down whatsoever. Your suggestions will be just a wee bit difficult, cos if I understand correctly, this is what I'll have to do:Originally posted by oxford mushroom:So the lessons are:
1. Marry someone richer than yourself and you will benefit if it ends in divorce
2. Do not have children or you will have to pay child support as well
3. If you intend to divorce, do it asap so that you can limit the period of alimony
4. If you can, marry under Islamic law as the conditions are more favorable to the man in the event of divorce. In fact, if divorce initiated by the wife (known as khu) and the husband is not at fault, the wife has to return her dowry to end the marriage because she is the "contract" breaker. In the instance of talaq where the husband is the "contract" breaker, he must pay the dowry in full in cases where all or part of it was deferred.
5. Seek a pre-nuptial agreement in places where it is recognized (not in UK or Singapore) to protect your assets
But my undersatanding of the law is now more reflective of the contribution the wife/spouse has put into the household as a non working partner.A poor typist marries a multi-millionnaire and the marriage ends in divorce after 10 years. She seeks half of his millions as alimony...tell me how does her contribution to the household over the 10 years justify the millions which the husband has gained prior to marriage?
Why marry? Just cohabitateOriginally posted by gentlerock:She will say she don't wanna marry me liow. Then definitely no chance for divorce liow (hmmmm...thinking of it now, it does achieve the objective).
