Thanks Rhonda!!!Originally posted by Rhonda:That was what my grandma and mom did too.
I don't think you can deep-fry the nian gao when it is still very soft cause it will become an ooey-gooey mess.
Also, you probably would have to use the flash-frying technique.
Hmm... since littlestream and you asked, I'll go bug my mom for the batter recipe this week!
Wah, alexkusu.........that's a great idea. Okay, I will think about it 'cos I prefer batter coating to the breaky breaky tempura coating.Originally posted by alexkusu:orh! so thats what u called a nian gao!
ls, maybe u can buy tempura coating ...dip NG slices in beaten egg n coat with the coating
Sorry, deathy..........I threw it out liao.Originally posted by The man who was death:doesn't look too bad, still can fedex over for me to eat

Thanks, though!
Hee hee.........don't worry about it. I understood. Still, thanks eh, alexkusu.Originally posted by alexkusu:its not really..... breaky..
alternatively, when you throw your battered pieces in the oil, u can drop a spoonful of batter in onto the pieces... this forms another batter layer on it.
hmm..hard to understand huh? its just one of the advanced techniques of frying 101
Hmm........I remembered there's a layer of "something" coating the nian gao so I didn't think it look like that. Perhaps, I was wrong.Originally posted by the Bear:i think they're supposed to look like that
what better way to say thanks than *ahem ahem ahem*Originally posted by littlestream:Hee hee.........don't worry about it. I understood. Still, thanks eh, alexkusu.
